Born on April 6, 1903 in Freeman, Nebraska Harold Edgerton went to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, in which he later became a professor. It was his time there where he had invented an electronic flash, a most commonly used technique in his photographs that is widely used today. Dr. Edgerton is mostly known for his techniques of using high-speed photography as shown here by a man hitting a ball with a tennis racket. This photograph changes the way we look at the world based on the prospective of the sequential shots of the man’s hand holding the tennis racket while hitting the ball.

https://www.michaelhoppengallery.com/artists/54-dr-harold-edgerton/overview/

Portrait of Leonardo DiCaprio
Annie Leibovitz is most famously known for her trademark use of bold colors and poses, while she was a photographer at the magazine company Rolling Stone. She is considered to be one of America’s best portrait photographers. Leibovitz has worked on many high-profile campaigns, like this portrait of famous actor Leonardo DiCaprio. This portrait was part of the 1997 edition of Vanity Fair. This portrait demonstrates the mood of the decade because of how charming yet seductive the subject looks. I feel as if it shows the aesthetic features of DiCaprio, like his jawline and side-parted hair that made his fans and girls around the world love to look at him.

Weegee: Distortions

Arthur Fellig also known as "Weegee" is most famously known for his photographs of car crash, murder scenes and life in the streets of the city. In this photograph it is different from his common works of art because it's more about creative photography rather than a more realistic approach. He calls this kind of style "distortions", they are a series of photographs of experimental portraits of celebrities and political figures. He devoted the last twenty years of his life working on these kinds of style. This picture is very unique because of how deformed the subject is. The photograph is of the famous actress Marilyn Monroe. I loved how Weegee messed around with her face because it looks dispproportionate from the rest of her body making it look more original. He made this effect by experimenting with a textured or curved glass or other translucent material between the enlarger lens and the photographic paper. This effect caused the image to be altered as seen below.

As Weegee’s reputation proceeds him for being first at the scene of a crime, he took this photograph of wounded Manuel Jiminez lying on the ground on the lap of Manuelda Hernandez. Weegee believed that he had phsycic abilities to predict crime, hence why he adopted the name “Weegee” originating from the board game Ouija. This photograph is interesting in a sense where Miss Hernandez can be seen crying on the ground for Mr. Jiminez and we can already feel the state of emotions she’s in, almost like the photograph is telling us a story with just one picture.

https://www.artsy.net/artist/weegee

In this photo Annie Leibovitz’s photographs actor Channing Tatum for Vanity Fair’s August 2015 cover. One thing that drew me to this picture was the “dancing in the rain” inspired photoshoot. This portrait of Tatum shows creativity and having fun demonstrated by the bold statement in his pose. Tatum looking seductively at the camera while hanging on to a clock attached to a pole creates an alluring mood. Leibovitz’s most known techniques is shown by the use of dark, but bold colors.

Fanning the cards by Dr. Harold Edgerton

With Dr. Edgerton’s invention of the flash, he was able to photograph the action of such things like his most famous photographs of drops of milk falling into a saucer or bullets hitting a steel plate while traveling at high-speed. The photograph below shows a man playing card tricks at hig-speed, that fits into Dr. Edgerton’s most popularly known technique use of photography. This photograph shows Dr. Edgerton’s skills of taking very fast paced action and capturing it with great quality and precision, which is shown in the vivid image of the cards flowing from the man’s hand to the other.

http://100photos.time.com/photos/harold-edgerton-milk-drop
