My first reaction about finding out about covid and the way I found out was different from people in my grade. I didn’t get to find out like everyone else because I wasn’t in school for the full day. It was sometime in March, and I fractured the arch in my foot, so I was in a boot for 3-4 weeks. With being in a boot there were multiple doctor appointments and checkups so I was picked up from school early on some days. But it was never planned for that friday for me to be picked up early as I was in class learning about my new classes for 7th grade from Mrs. Stein and getting an understanding of what to expect about going into junior high. As she was just done handing out our classes, my 6th grade teacher got a call from the lower school office saying that “Vienna Bolock is being dismissed”. I just looked at her in shock and confusion because I didn’t know why I was leaving, I even questioned her why am I leaving as if she would know and repeated if they for sure said my name. I was headed downstairs and towards my mom and she just told me “I lost the keys to the house at the car dealership so I figured I would walk here to get you earlier from school and your dad is on his way to our house to pick you up and drop off the back up keys.” I was a little mad at first because I didn’t want to leave school because Mrs. Stein was explaining what we were expecting for Junior High. But eventually when I went home, about 20 minutes later after being stuck in the outside heat, my dad showed up and dropped off the keys and said to my mother and I that “school is out for the next 2 weeks because of covid.” I’m sure my reaction was just like everyone else, happy because we get a break from school, but also confused because I didn’t know what I was going to be doing for the next two weeks due to covid. In the end, I wasn’t there with all my friends to find out about it in school, but at least I got to leave school early and a few days later get my boot taken off. I’m glad I wasn’t in school when the school sent the email because I think people would have been going crazy and I didn’t want to be around that.

I have always loved interacting with new faces at school because I have attended American Heritage for the past 10 years, and I feel that it has given me the confidence to walk across campus and know where everything is and how to get there. I’m also looking forward to learning new subjects such as geography, biology, and business law. American Heritage has been my home for what feels like forever now, and I have already prepared myself for how sad it will be when I graduate, and take one step closer by going into high school. I now know that now is the time when grades are going to be taken seriously, I will be more active in sports and clubs, and etc. To be completely honest, I’m tired of 8th grade and ready to start a new chapter in my life, but I will for sure miss all my wonderful teachers that have taught me so much this past year, and quite frankly, have been the best teachers I have ever had from my years at AHS.
