Having a secure attachment with caregivers is extremely important for the healthy development of the child.

How is a secure attachment formed?

Studies have confirmed that secure attachments are formed by providing a nurturing environment, being attentive to your child, attuned to their needs and wants, allowing them freedom to explore, encouraging independence, and being reliable as a parent.

The first few years from birth to 3 years infants and toddlers are developing a sense of trust and autonomy. It is our role as caregivers to foster this development by promoting self-sufficiency while maintaining a secure environment and lots of affection in a stable home.

Positive reinforcement, accountability, and warm guidance from caregivers will help build trust with young children. Positive reinforcement focuses on appreciating and encouraging good behavior rather than focusing on punishing less than ideal behavior. It is rooted in the idea that undesirable behavior stems from a deeper need. Rewarding positive behavior, while addressing the child's needs, creates positive memories and associations, ultimately building lasting trust.

Study 1: We are looking for children 3-5 years and the study will be held at a local playground. The purpose of this study is to observe children in a natural environment to gather information about behavior.

Study 2: We are looking for children to come to the facility to participate in a set of structured activities with specifically selected toys and games. The purpose of this study is to observe the children's behavior in a controlled setting.

Study 3: Contact your Parent Partner to complete our questionnaire on your child's development and behavior. $25 gift card will be awarded for this survey.

Stick around for a special local performance by Education.edu Highschool on "Child Development Theorists"! This performance will not only teach us more about theories in child development but will also foster the development of the high school students as they attempt to solidify the information they are learning in their studies.
