Q1: Sketchbook Growth

This collage shows my progress in Q1 of Art 1. I think that I have gotten more detailed with my sketches as I've grown. I can now confidently sketch with detail without rushing or overthinking. I think I have Improved a good amount thanks to my smart goal which was to work faster but stay detailed. I think I have stuck true to this and steadily got faster with my sketches with the same level of detail.

I learned about blind contours and drew a lot of examples. I also wrote down a few definitions from the text book.

Q1: Artist Inspiration

What I learned from watching and understanding Heather Hansen's work was that art can come in many forms and does not always have to be your typical drawing, but instead a great way to express yourself. After watching the video we went outside to replicate her art style with chalk. I made a pretty cool circular design. This experience helped me become more intrusive and experimental when I make art.

Q1: Still Life Composition

I learned when drawing this still life to always shade lightly so you can have different levels of shading in each part. I brought a picture of me and a famous basketball player, Dirk Nowitzki. I brought this in because I love basketball and as a kid he was my favorite basketball player, so meeting him was a really memorable experience.

Line Weight

I used the overlapping technique and line weight to capture this drawing of the solar system hanging from chains as if controlled by some greater power, making us feel like were small compared to this powerful being. This was my first main project and I think that, through my critique, I did a good job with line weight and color, but could do better by adding more overlapping elements and less white space. I revised my work when I changed the look of the sun and replaced a small planet with a meteor.

Still Life

My object was a photo of me and a famous basketball player. What I learned from this project was that shading is very important and sometimes can make or break a drawing. My strong areas are my shading and my levels of darkness, but my flaws are the lack of extra detail in some part and it being too dark in some parts. I revised my work because I switched seats on the second day to get a better view of my object.

Q1 Reflection

I feel like my art has improved throughout this quarter because I have learned really great techniques like line weight and contours. So far I think this class is going well and I really like the two final projects we have done. In Q2 I hope to draw more realistic drawings and include more detail
