They left their home in England due to religious persecution but for economic reasons as well. 
The name puritans was a term assigned to the movement by its enemies. 
In 1630 the puritans set sail to get to America, on a ship called the "Mayflower". 
Challenges that puritans faced here was food, disease, and also unfriendly native Americans.

With this, they sought out in the 16th and 17th centuries to purify England. They were set on changing the ways of England to live by the Scriptures and to show those who have sinned to change. Puritans found God to be the most important, as well as being a proper Christian community. They believed  that living under the eyes of God was the best for everyone. In Puritan towns, attending church was mandatory. The people apart of the religion were very strict and faithful to it.

- Paradise Lost was written about the fall of Satan. As well as the disobedience of man and the consequences of their actions. God had banished Satan to the Garden of Eden for trying to take form the Tree of Knowledge.

The Tempest By William Shakespeare (1610)
- This play contains betrayal, love and forgiveness. It takes place on an island near Italy. Events such as the murder of the King of Naples, the plan to kill the magician Prospero as well as a romance with a Dukes daughter and a King's son.

Don Quixote By Miguel de Cervantes (1615)
- Don Quixote was a man who was fooled by romantic/knightly writings that he has read. He sets out on an adventure with Sancho, a peasant. Don believes that his adventure is one of those fantasy story's he read. As he sets out on many adventures with Sancho, he is fooled by the things that are happening.

In 1588-1649, John Winthrop was the first governor of the Massachusetts Bay Colony and he was a prominent figure among the puritan founders of New England. John Winthrop had great leadership skills and wisdom and was known for being strictly religious. In his early years, he went to trinity college to study law, serve justice and peace, and gained a position in the government. Winthrop spent his time studying scripture and praying and eventually his religion led him to become a puritan.
Jonathan Belcher 
Jonathan Belcher was born into a well-established New England family, his grandfather was a lieutenant governor of the New Hemisphere. In 1730, Belcher entered Middle Temple, London and he studied law a year later, in 1741 his father’s financial support ended and Belcher surrenders his rank at the English bar to fortunes in Dublin. Five years later he was appointed deputy secretary to the Lord of Chancellor of Ireland.
Thomas Dudley
Thomas Dudley was a British colonial governor of Massachusetts. He is considered the most influential man in Massachusetts Bay Colony. He was the son of a country gentleman in England and after being converted to puritanism he joined with others like Lincolnshire gentlemen in Cambridge, an agreement to settle in New England and taking the Massachusetts Bay company with them.
