The Precambrian Era

The precambrian time was the first time period and the longest period which was 90% of our planets history. When Earth was newly formed it was so hot that life on earth was not possible. It took 1.5 billion years to cool down enough to have life on earth. When life forms started to grow there was specific species that formed at that time. These specific species are viruses, bacteria, algae, fungi, simple worms and jelly fish.

The Paleozoic Era

The Paleozoic Era was the second Era The Paleozoic Era was 544 to 245 million years ago and is divided into six periods. This time was the evolution of fish, reptiles, vascular plants and insects, the formation of the Supercontinent of Pangea. There were two ice ages in the Paleozoic Era. This Era ended with a great mass extinction called the Permian-Triassic extinction. 95% of marine life died in this mass extinction.

The Mesozoic Era

The Mesozoic era was the third Era the Mesozoic Era was 250 to 65 million years ago and was split into three main periods the Triassic, Jurassic, and Cretaceous period. Dinosaurs stepped in and ruled the earth in this era. Flowering plants sprouted during the late Cretaceous period. The Mesozoic Era given plenty of food for dinosaurs and enormous reptiles that existed at the time. There was a mass extinction that ended this era.

The Cenozoic Era

The Cenozoic Era is the last era it spans from 65 million years ago to now the Cenozoic Era was split into three periods Paleogene, Neogene and Quaternary. These three periods are divided into seven epochs the Eocene, Paleocene, Miocene, Oligocene, Pleistocene, Pliocene and Holocene. Mountain ranges including the Himalayas, Alps and the Rocky mountains were all formed during the Cenozoic Era. More animals like saber-toothed cats, cave lions, cave bears, woolly rhinoceroses, giant deer and woolly mammoths were formed. Lakes and fjords were carved out and humans formed and now we live in the Cenozoic Era but we live in the Quaternary period of the era.
