AND RUNNING A PROJECT
1)open the DEV C++ Application
2)Find the "File " menu and select "New","Project..."
3)After selecting the"Project.."menu
4)A Pop-up window will come out and then select the "Empty project" and make sure the "C++ project" is selected
5)After you have enter a name for your project ,click "ok"
6)then save the project (doesnt matter where)
7)The DEV C++ will automatically open an untitled page with a blinking "|" ready to type

Using Dev-C++This section is probably why you are here.All programming done for CSCI-2025 will require separate compilation projects (i.e. class header file(s), class implementation file(s) and a main/application/client/driver file). This process is relatively easy as long as you know what Dev-C++ requires to do this. In this page you will be given instructions using the Project menu choice. In another handout you will be given instructions on how to manually compile, link and execute C++ files at the command prompt of a command window. 2. Go to the "File" menu and select "source file"
3. Go to the "Project" menu and select "new file"
( Dev C++ will not ask for a file name for any new source until attempt to : 1. Compile

1. Run Dev/C++

**If you selected to run the program at the end of installation, you can skip to step 2,**

Go to Start Menu > All Programs > Bloodshed Dev-C++ > Dev-C++. This should start the program.

2. Create a New Source File

**If you are prompted with a set up window, use all the default settings**

Once the program opens, you need to create a new source file so you can start writing your first program. To do this select File > New > Source File. The path is shown in the figure above. This will open up an area where you be able to type out your code.

3.Copy the following code.

4. Examine Code

To begin learning about what the different funtions are doing, read the comments seen in blue font in the code between the /* and the */. This will describe the general idea of what is happening in the code following.

5. Save File

Save your file by going to File > Save As. Select save location and name your file

**IMPORTANT**
Make sure you change the file type to a C source file (*.c). This is under the save as type.

6. Compile Code

Compile your code by going to Execute > Compile. This will check through the code to make sure that it is a valid C file. When the compilation is complete, close the compile window.

1. Open Dev-C++.exe
2.Select File => New source file from the Menu bar or click on the “New source file” button on the toolbar. The editor window opens with the template of a C source code.
3.Replace the words “Insert comments here” with your name and the name of the program. State the purpose of this program inside of the comments.
4.Include Code
5.Click “Compile” button or select Execute => Compile option from the Menu bar. The Compilation dialog box appears . In this case a program has one syntax error. The Compiler results are shown at the bottom of the window. The number at the left indicates the line number where the error occurs; in this case this is line 13. “Parse” error means that this is a syntax error. In this case the semicolon is missing after 26.
6.Click “Continue” to return to the editor window, correct the error(s) and compile the program again.
7.When your program compiles successfully.
8.File -> Save As.
And save it with some file name with a .cpp extension, such as example.cpp
