This project is a group of sub-genres that illustrates the 500+ year old play "Romeo and Juliet" by William Shakespeare. This play is a tragic love story that is comedian but lots of passionate love. These sections also portray the main events in this play, but it also gels together to create an overarching theme. The unspoken theme of this play is that long, heated family feuds are like wars of attrition, but it will make you feel more guilty of claiming a life in peacetime rather than killing somebody in war.

This connects with the overall play because it starts to highlight Verona's main societal problem. This also sets the stage of a continuing feud that had been a problem between the two families for generations, which leads to the biggest sacrifice for the two families later on in the play.

The text messages connect with the play because it shows how their infatuation quickly turned into true love. But again, they have to keep it private. This subgenre represents the privacy that both of them needed to have because they would suffer the consequences if they were found out.

Mercutio is killed due to Tybalt's hot temper and Romeo murders him out of revenge for his friend's death. This connects to the theme because it does lead to a boiling point in the tensions between the two families, but it also makes Romeo and Juliet very depressed. This sets the stage of regret from the families once they pass away in the Capulet's family burial.

Friar Laurence comes to Romeo with the news regarding the banishment saying that the Prince created, "... [A] judgement vanished from his lips—/ Not body's death, but body's banishment./ ...For exile hath more terror in his look,/ Much more than death. Do not say 'banishment'," (Rom. 3. 2. 10-14).

The certificate connects to the theme because Juliet has to fake death because Juliet's and Romeo's forbidden love is not known to anyone else. This makes the Capulets marry off Juliet to Paris, but Juliet fakes her death. This shows how the Capulets had to deal with Juliet lying, but Juliet doesn't known what is going to happen to Romeo.

The therapist's notes are a unique way of connecting personally with the theme of the story because it displays the ultimate sacrifice of the two families. Since they got to the point where they couldn't tolerate each other anymore, they started to kill each other, and ultimately caused the death of their children. This would connect with the last part of the theme that we mentioned in the Dear Reader paragraph.

After finding Paris, Romeo, and Juliet actually dead in this scene, the Capulet and Prince said, "Poor sacrifices of our enmity!/ A glooming peace this morning with it brings./ The sun for sorrow will not show his head./ Go hence, to have more talk of these sad things;/ Some shall be pardoned, and some punished;/ For never was a story of more woe/ Than this of Juliet and her Romeo," (Rom. 5. 3. 304-310).
