Spelling is easy for me because as a child in school I actually enjoyed getting spelling words every week. Something that might make spelling harder for children could be that the teacher is not making it fun and important to know how to spell. As a young student, I was always given spelling words every week and was tested on them each Friday. I think doing this made me a better speller. I also participated in school spelling bee's. When a child is not familiar with sound that certain letters can make, which is long and short vowels. This also could be connected to words with silent lettering in it, such as "knee."

I believe I am adequate speller because I do from time to time have to look up words in order to get the correct spelling of words, but I know how to spell majority of words used daily. What makes spelling hard for me is me growing up not being a person who liked reading, and my teachers not introducing us to words the way they should. Spelling test for most stop after certain grades and most upper grade teachers don't focus on spelling of words. On the other hand, when I’m having trouble spelling a unfamiliar word, I use decoding skills to sound out words in order for me to spell them. Prior knowledge of words makes spelling easy for me. Spelling can be hard for young learners if they do not have prior knowledge of words, do not know how to decode, or use phonological awareness. I’m good with morphemic analysis and that helps me break down words, their spellings, and meanings.
