I want my students to just think of math as thinking logically. This makes it more accessible and less intimidating. I want them to move away from thinking of math as this big complex field and think of it as just a way of thinking logically.

I agree with Tara -> thinking about math as logical thinking, problem solving, a puzzle to be discovered. I want my students to think of math as something that they are are capable of doing! I also want them to understand that math skills are built, and that they will always get better, and that its okay to make mistakes, and keep trying!

A growth mindset encourages all learners by welcoming risk-taking, building confidence, allowing for experimentation, and encouraging practice and errors. When you practice a skill, you get better. Everyone has the ability to get there if they put in the effort. (Ross says Growth Mindset is “Lose Yourself” by Eminem.)

I want my students to know that math does not start and stop in math class. Math is an important part of many other fun and fulfilling areas of our lives (e.g., when cooking, playing sports, traveling, etc). Therefore learning about math is a way to learn more about our world and the activities that make us happy.

We want our children to have a positive mindset, a growth mindset, where they can develop number sense. We would also want them to be able to think critically when doing math, and being able to explain their answers and mathematical understanding.

I want students to believe in themselves, to be confident in their ability to grow in (math) a subject that is viewed as difficult for so many that it is easy to view it negatively. I want students to expect to get as much out of math as they put in, practice does not make perfect but it does help us improve. I also want them to know that it is okay to ask for help or a clearer explanation because we all learn differently.
