I would rather spend time helping students understand a topic that might not be so "sunshine-y and rainbow-y" and help give them an understanding that makes such a dull and mundane subject, interesting! After a rousing 10+ years of mistakenly attending The Art Institute of Atlanta, "floating" through the ever-illustrious world of food-service and hospitality, an (interesting) enlistment with the US Navy, and an "enlightening" year as a Behavioral Health Technician and substitute teacher, I find myself happily pursuing my degree in Psychology with a minor in Professional Education. I'm a recovering caffeine addict, father of two children, and a pretty good husband per my wife's reviews. I wanted to go into teaching for a few reasons, but mostly because I know there's some student out there than needs a teacher who ACTUALLY cares. I remember only ONE teacher in all of my youth that really made a caring impression on me (11th grade English), and instead of being just like her, I want to be even BETTER than her. I know from my time working with troubled youth that some kids leave school and go home to nothing. No love, no listening ear, no support, NOTHING. I want to give those, and all of my other students the feeling that they are important to me. I intend to teach while I pursue my master's in Counseling Psychology so that I can focus on communicating with the youth in a way that can impact them positively both in and out of the classroom setting. In my free time (lol which barely exists) I love to watch "The Office" on, well, basically an infinite repeat, workout, draw and bum it for hours at the beach. It seems that I would be one of those crazy non traditional students. I have been married for 18 years and have three amazing boys ages 18, 12, and 11 that are my world. That being said, if you are counting correctly, I actually have 4 male children. On top of those children is a mini zoo consisting of 1 dog, 1 cat, 1 conure, 2 parakeets, 2 ball pythons, 2 bearded dragons, 3 savigny agamas, 1 scorpion, 13 baby chicks, and several quail eggs in the incubator that we anticipate hatching any time now. As you can imagine, my home is full of noise, life, and love.
I have been a nurse for the last sixteen years and have found this to be very rewarding but felt it was time to follow my dreams from long ago. To meet these dreams I have had to make many sacrifices. I am a full time mom, continue to work a full time 40+ hours a week job, and have been taking a full course load every term for the past two years. I do all this because my children are growing up and I have longed to be a teacher since I was little. I have a passion for reading so decided to major in English Liberal Arts with a minor in professional education. I plan to teach in the states until my youngest moves out and then spend a few years teaching English in Japan just to enjoy a change of pace and experience a new culture.

At the end of the 2018-2019 school year, I graduated with my high school diploma and my Associate's degree at the age of seventeen. My dreams for success propelled me to be the best at the things I enjoyed, and one of those has always been school. I think a large part of why I want to teach comes from the experiences I have had throughout my education. I have been in several gifted programs, and I have experience with helping my sister, who has Asperger's syndrome. I have a desire to use my abilities to help others either through counseling or teaching in the education system. My life is more than academics, though. I love helping others, so I tend to be the "therapist" for many of my friends. They come to me for advice or support, and I am always happy to lend a hand where I can. I am a very optimistic person because of my idealism, and I hope that I get to share that with many of you. I hope to get a chance to meet all of you and learn about who you are.
