This is Irena Sendler, she was born on February 15 1910, Irena was born in Warsaw but she grew up in the town of Otwock, in Poland ,Her last name used to be Krzyżanowski but she had changed it in Poland because it was a lot easier to say ,She died of old age and she died in 2008

In early 1939, Irena began helping Jews by offering them food and shelter. She was a doctor working in the field hospital. Irena was an only child, but she had a son and a daughter. Her daughter, Janka,still lives in Poland, and her son Adam passed away in 1999.

Irena Sendler smuggled 2500 Jewish children out of the Warsaw ghetto. Most of those kids did not survive the war but lived much longer than if they lived in the ghetto. She then provided them with false identity documents and shelter with Polish families or in orphanages and other care facilities, including Catholic nun convents. all of these things are in her book ,her book was all about about saving those children from the Holocaust and giving them a better life than living in the ghetto.

This book is about all the risk and all that Irena did that people now would not do . It talks about all that she did for the children and what would happen if she didn't save them. Not all the children she saved survived but a few of them did and still are alive right now (or have died in the past few years).

Irena Sendler took advantage of her job in order to help the Jews, however this became practically impossible once the ghetto was sealed off in November 1940. Close to 400,000 people had been driven into the small area that had been allocated to the ghetto. The poor hygienic conditions in the crowded ghetto, the lack of food and medical supplies resulted in epidemics and high death rates. Irena Sendler, at great personal danger, devised means to get into the ghetto and help the dying Jews.
