Session 1 In todays rehearsal I discussed with my group what type of movements we should do and how to present them in addition to Japanese art forms and techniques to the audience we talked about what order we should be in and I thought that we should all start with a sun dance because the day starts with the sun coming up so I though it would be a good contrast between the two. Also we tried different movements together so we could see how certain things would look and fit into place, we are going to discuss this further in tomorrows lesson.

Today as a group we discussed further what movements would best show Japanese art forms and decided to go with kabuki which when we I researched into it is a form of traditional Japanese dance with highly stylized song, now performed only by male actors, using exaggerated gestures and body movements to express emotions , I thought this would work well because we are not aloud to talk in this performance so our exaggerated expressions and body movements would give our audience a different insight on our emotions within the play.

In todays lesson me Anya and Lucy came up with a intro for our performance and our sun dance, while we move we will move to the words saying "sun shines bright on earth, beautiful beaming sun, hot summers night burns bright" which I think will show the purity at the start like hoe Japanese dance is so pure and elegant. furthermore we have decided we will show peace war growth and death in our performance which is some of the most traditional acts to express in japan through dance .

We have worked out our movements for each piece and have a general understanding of what I need to present in the performance, I have studied more into types of Japanese art forms and really liked the thought of "Noh" which I feel would work well in our performance because it is an traditional Japanese masked drama with dance and song. The reason why I thought it would work well in our performance because our dances would be a lot better performed with music and would create an atmosphere that the audience could feel.

Today as a group we discussed costume we decided to put ribbon around our wrist and and ankles also i had ribbon on my head we thought of this ideal because the idea of rebels at war would always had a signature hat or band around there forehead. We thought the ribbon would be best in purple because the darker colors mixed in well with the atmosphere we also used black lipstick for the lines on our face because when I searched into Japanese war and kabuki I learnt that this type of theater is known for its make up worn on stage they often had treble like marks on there face so I thought this would suit in well with the whole Japanese style of performance, and for clothes we all decided to wear black because that would show the darkness of war and match in with the black out of death and the atmosphere for the audience.

Today was the day of our performance and we had a run through just before we preformed, in my opinion we did well the run through because we got all our movements on time and was able to run through without any mistakes accept our timing so we had to as a group discuss who we followed and who would lead the moments especially the end when we had the flower dance . So as a group we decided Anya would lead because she was at the center of stage and it would be easier for us to mimic her movements from behind.

In my opinion i think the hole experience was well i enjoyed working in a group alongside Anya and Lucy and also enjoyed learning something a bit out of my comfort zone. I researched a lot about kabuki and realized that this is a type of "bizarre theater" and tried my hardest to match that way of preforming. I found it difficult in some ways just because we couldn't speak and it was all about movement but i felt that this also helped with my concentration with other charters and observing what they was doing. Also I like gathering new techniques like fan dancing this I liked because I thought that it added something different and unique to just a normal style of there and it also makes this interesting for the audience to watch.

Next time I would spend more time working on timing as a group because I felt that this was something that could of been improved in my performance, also I think timing is important as an whole just because hen u preform a movement as a group the audience can always tell when something is out of time which makes the performance look unprofessional. I would also add more lighting on stage with different techniques because I think that would of made the show a lot more interesting for the viewers and also some background noises to create more of an atmosphere because in my performance the sounds were quite abrupt and then they would stop with nothing but silence which i feel made the show less interesting and harder to understand.

I fell like working with a group was a challenge just because we all had different ideas which were all good but it was hard to make sure all these ideas got added to the performance therefore i felt like some members of the group often felt like there voice was not getting herd and the ideas was not getting used but this was not the case. As a group we all had to put at least one of every member of the groups ideas in the performance and some scenes were shorter then others and some ideas did not match the style of the performance so this often lead to disagreements in the group .

I found it interesting using different styles of techniques including the facial expressions on the face sheet (which have been provided on paper with my research on kabuki ) but working as a group and adding these facial expressions was a difficult task because we had to fit it into the music and the movements. We often had to use these faces while in the war scene because we thought this would add to the crazy dangerous atmosphere that the war was supposed to display to the audience, I think it worked very well with our performance and helped the audience get an insight of our emotions so i'm happy with the techniques we used to add these faces despite it being difficult to know when to add them.

I think working on the kabuki dance style of theater and the Punk Rock style was great because there both complete opposites and Allowed me to gain lots of new techniques like for the Kabuki it was different types of facial expressions and for the West Punk Rock I worked on different tones of voice. Which I think has helped me develop my skills in preforming arts, and made me realize what it takes to be certain characters and how to express emotions in ways other from just saying them, I feel that working on Punk Rock and Japanese art forms was an interesting process throughout and gave me techniques and skills that I can use later on in life with my acting career so now I have equipped skills on different theater types because both performances required a different set of skills .
