The colonists had to provide food, water, housing, and transportation for the British and they had to treat them with hospitality. If a colonist refused to pay, they would be fined or sent to jail. This Act sparked protest in the colonies and it was Parliament's first attempt to raise money by taxing the colonists directly. </div>]]></description>

         <title>The Boston Tea Party</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The Boston Tea Party was the colonists reaction to the Tea Act. When ships filled with tea arrived at Boston from the British East India Company, colonists disguised as Native Americans snuck onto the ships and dumped over 340 chests of tea in the harbor. There were about 60 members of the Sons of Liberty who participated in the Tea Party. The amount of tea that was dumped in the harbor cost about $18,000.</div>]]></description>

Harbor was closed until Boston paid for ruined tea.<br>2.Governor decided if and when the legislature could meet.<br>3.Royal officials accused of crimes were sent to a friendlier judge in Britain for trials.<br>4.Quartering Act that required colonists to house British troops.</div>]]></description>
