Understanding our students is important and knowing what interest them can build rapport and increase engagement. My thoughts are that engagement goes up and down for each students.. Much like good days and bad days. What I think is a fantastic video might be boring for some... But the same student might be very engage when I simply read how survivor deal with aftermath of a tsunami from the Internet.
This means we need to have a repertoire of pedagogy in our bags and not do the same thing over and over.

How we see our students than determine what we do in class (pygmalion effect). I don't give up on any student... And they must. Know it too.
