It has a similar resemblance to the renaissance hierarchy with the king/emperor at the top and commoners at the bottom. As said, the one sitting at the top of the pyramid is the emperor.  He was more of a symbolic ruler. Below the emperor was the shogun,  the shogun was expected to oversee politics and the military he was the political leader of Japan. The nobles were called Daimyos and they were the lords of large property and were able to purchase their own military of samurai warriors to protect their family, lives, and land. Samurais were Japans main warriors and were hired by those of the upper class. Fun fact about samurais,  they are called Bushi in Japan. Peasants include that of farmers’ fishers,  usually, they had various side jobs including making silk, paper, and pottery. Since they were only peasants they were paid in rice and land to live on. Every month they paid taxes of rice and food to the lord of the land (Daimyos). Fun fact, peasants made up of 90% of the social hierarchy. Artisans were those that made beautiful and necessary goods but were treated lesser than the farmers. Their hands created everyday items like cooking utensils, clothes, and several other necessities.  Now sadly at the bottom of the social hierarchy, the merchants. Merchants were considered the lowest of the low because unlike the farmers and artisans merchants did not produce anything.        ↳Emperor Jimmu ascends to the throne, beginning the start of Traditional Japanese history
    • Yayoi Period 弥生時代 (300 BC - 250 AD)
      ↳ Rice and metalworking are finally brought to Japan. Many countries began to combine in order to create Japan.
    • Asuka Period 飛鳥時代 (538 - 710)
     ↳Buddhism was introduced in 538-552 by Seong of Baekje. In 593, the Soga clan takes over Japan with Empress Suiko 
    • 645 
       ↳Asuka Period finally ends with the Soga clan defeated and the Nakatomi clan taking power
    •  Hakuhō Period 白鳳時代 (646 - 686)
     ↳Baekje-Tang war begins, in 684 many earthquakes and severe tsunamis plagued Japan
    • Nara Period 奈良時代 (710 - 784)
     ↳Nara officially becomes the first lasting capital.  In 784 the capital relocates to      Nagaoka.
    • Heian Period 平安時代 (794 - 1185)
       ↳The capital relocates to Heian/Kyoto, Fujiwara Michinaga becomes regent, thus the     Fujiwara power is at it’s highest and the Taira clan takes over after the Meiji war.
    • Kamakura Period 鎌倉時代 (1192 - 1333)             ↳Minamoto Yoritomo gains the title Shogun and creates the Kamakura government within Kamakura. In 1274 and 1281, Mongols attempt to invade Japan twice but fail due to the weather. In 1333 the Kamakura government crashes and falls. 
    • Muromachi Period 室町時代 (1338 - 1573)
        ↳The emperor finally gets the power back and restores power over Japan! Kyoto is captured by Ashikaga Takauji. Due to fear, the emperor runs away and creates the Southern court in Yoshino. Takauji makes the Muromachi government and a second emperor is appointed in Kyoto. 1467-1477 the Onin war takes place. Christianity is introduced to Japan by the Portuguese. Nobunaga is introduced into Kyoto, and in 1573 the Muruomachi governments break down.
    • Azuchi-Momoyami Period 安土桃屋時代(1573 - 1603)
          ↳Takeda clan loses in battle by the Nagashino. Nobunaga is killed and Toyotomi Hideyoshi succeeds the throne. Japan attempts to invade Korea but fails. Hideyoshi dies. 
    • Edo Period 江戸時代 (1603 - 1868)
           ↳Ieyasu becomes shogun and the Tokugawa government is established in Edo (Tokyo). The Toyotomi clan gets destroys and Ieyasu soon after conquers Osaka Castle. In 1639 Japan Isolates itself from the rest of the world except for specific trade between other countries. 
    • Meiji Period 明治時代 (1868 - 1912)
          ↳The new capital is officially Tokyo! The very first railway line is created from Tokyo to Yokohama. In 1912 emperor Meiji passes away. 
    • Taisho Period 大正時代 (1912 - 1926)
           ↳Japan joins in WW1, and the Kanato Earthquake devastates Tokyo and Yokohama. 
    • Showa Period 昭和期 (1926 - 1989)
           ↳ Japan is fighting a war, but in 1945 atomic bombs are dropped in Hiroshima Nagasaki. Japan finally surrenders and becomes a member of the U.N.
    • Heisei Period 平成時代 (1989 - 2019)
          ↳Hanshin Earthquake hits Kobe in 1995, in 2011 the Great East Japan Earthquake takes over the Tohoku region of Japan.

Speaking in Japanese can be difficult sometimes because there are many ways to say a certain sentence. It all depends on what the situation is, who that person is to you (relationship), and how much older than the said person is. If that person is older than you, you must speak in a formal matter using very specific words to that person. If the person is younger the opposite can happen, even if the age difference is just one year you must speak to them as your superior. If it is family and friends you may speak in a casual tone. For example, 'sorry' in Japanese is said in different ways. 'Gomen' or 'Gomennasai' is the casual way to say sorry towards family, friends. While "Sumimasen" is used as a formal apology to someone older than you or the superior.
