I feel that the family is the same and will make this same mistakes. I think they will worse because gregor was the one who was making all the money to pay of the families debt. In the beginning of the. novela, Gregor first turns into his bug form and the manager shows up. He tries to convince the manager to calm down and stay, "The manager must be detained... Gregor's and the family's future depends on it" (16). Kafka emphasizes hoe Gregor is the person supporting the family and making money for the family. Without him, the family will perish and will continue to make the same mistake.

They want to do things differently, such as the father sitting on the chair and the sister waiting on everyone, fitting into a stereotypical perspective of a woman. Those times represented their lowest versions of themselves. The death of their son was a burden that was essentially lifted from them.

I believe that the family is the same and will make the same mistakes. Gregor's sister is referred to as a feeble child throughout the book as she matures. The insistence that she is young is there to emphasize that she is the only one with a future. The mother is already married and at this time in history, she is coming to the end of her usefulness. Mr. Samsa is already an old man who has chosen his career and is consumed in the power struggle of the working class society. Therefore, the violin crashing to the ground and breaking represents the only opportunity that she has. Gregor's dream for her was to send her to the Conservatory and his only dream that came from his 5 years of work came to an end just as he died. Her "practiced hands" were used to make "covers and bolsters on the bed" (Kafka 47). All of her dreams are crushed as he dies and therefore none of the three survivors are going to do anything meaningful to extend his career.

The ending paragraph foreshadows that the family might end up making the same mistakes again, but this time with grete, not gregor. "...they thought that it would soon be time, too, to find her a good husband." (55). This at first may seem innocent and that the parents thinking of Gretes well being, but judging from how Mr. Samsa had not changed his viewpoint on the lower class and still views himself as higher, that he is actually forcing her to marry someone that most likely will be someone wealthy so they can move up in class. Even though they are moving to a new apartment, and a new place, they themselves have not changed.

(55) I find it ironic that the family has been in financial trouble, and they did not move to this cheaper and better situated apartment before when Gregor was alive. As if they had they could have paid off the debt faster, and they took advantage of Gregor again by choosing the spot that he had already chosen. But overall will improve from this.

I think that despite Gregor's sacrifice at the end of the novel, the family will be the same. His death did not reveal something to them that they did not already know, if anything it highlighted their obsession with climbing the social ladder, and their obsession with self image. This is evident when Kafka writes, "They decided to spend this day resting and going for a walk; they not only deserved a break for their work, they absolutely needed one" (54). This quote highlights the family mindset that they are the ones taking on the burden of money, despite the fact that they are only paying off their own debt, which Gregor initially carried. Plus, their lack of care for Gregor in his final days shows how they disregard him since he cannot provide any furthur.

This exemplifies the distance that was put within the family and him as a result of his metamorphosis.

Even though Gregor was freed of his dehumanization, Grete will become dehumanized.

"'Well,' said Mr. Samsa, 'now we can thank God!'"

This quote illustrates that the family did not view Gregor is a positive light, and rather as a burden.. or THE burden on the family's life. As they believe Gregor is seemingly the essence of all their internal issues, now that he is gone, they will attempt at the same path they did before. This will lead to the further demise of the family, as they now have no one to hold accountable and blame for their hardships. Contrary to the truth, the family seems to imagine that the debt was lifted at the same moment as Gregor died, soon to realize they still hold the debt. Furthermore, irony is shown in the quote by thanking god. In many ways, Gregor can be seen as almost a Christ-like figure, as he almost always does the most to endear for and help the family. Yet, even through the heavenly attitude that Gregor holds for his family, they still find the riddance of it to be so godly.
