As Momotaro grew strong, he learned that demons on Onigashima Island were tormenting nearby villages. Despite his parents' worries about the fierce oni, Momotaro decided to confront them. His mother made him special dumplings (kibidango) for the journey, and he set off determined to defeat the demons. On his way, Momotaro recruited a dog, a pheasant, and a monkey by offering them kibidango. Together, they grew strong and defeated the oni, who promised never to attack again.
