There is a Cumbria Chamber of Commerce who do a lot of business development. Enterprise Cumbria (LEP) are Cumbria-wide.

Is the CVSE sector represented at board level? e.g of CLEP, Enterprise Cumbria, Chamber of Commerce?

LEP-type organisations often like to tick a box

1. Present win win prospect to engage business

2. Respond through social value in coordinated approach to serve all communities in CUmbria

3. Facilitation of interface between 3rd sector and business

Penrith BID (Business Improvement District) - focusses on Penrith. There is one for the town centre and one for the industrial parks

Team Barrow exists because of BAE and have leveraged Govt to help address tourism and leisure, social need and infrastructure.

Needs to be benefit on both sides. How will the givers benefit? Even BAE receive public money and so this helps them of their social value.

Perception of business thinking they are doing a nice thing.

Looking at the broader impact e.g. working with private sector to fund initiatives that createinterest that leads to youmg people seeking employment back with that company.

Investors only want it to serve specific areas.

How do marginalised, underrepresented areas get supported? E.g. doesn't appear on index of deprivation but has pockets of deprivation. so doesn't always show as having need. Parts of Kendal are similar.

How do large businesses distribute their funding? Could we influence them to change their reach?

North West Nuclear Hub being created - how can skills from apprenticeships or uni come to this area for them to get their business benefit?

Need it to not be a token gesture and tick a box and needs to be part of community building and community sustainability.

Young people can't stay where they grow up but a social value approach could help this.
