No, they both killed and took stuff. They were a bit nicer by trading and spreading culture but both forced people to turn to Christianity. The text says that Queen Elizabeth ordered for the explorers to kill and take and enjoy conquering. French Explorer Jacques Cartier planting a cross in front of Native Americans  and forced them to turn to Christianity just like the Spanish.

Another example would be the quote from Queen Elizabeth that said, "To discover, search, find out any heathen or barbarous lands and countries not possessed by any Christian Prince or Christian people…to horde, occupy, take, and enjoy these lands.” This clearly shows atrocities and wrongdoings.
