         <description><![CDATA[<div>Q1)&nbsp;</div><div>Method 1:&nbsp; Faulty in the open circuit condition then the reading will be high resistance (or open circuit) in both directions. Failed in the short circuit condition it will show low resistance in both directions.&nbsp;</div><div>&nbsp;Method 2: Diode test position (internal 2.5 – 3.5 V). Serviceable diode will show around 0.7 volts when tested in the forward bias direction and will show the internal voltage of the meter when tested in reverse bias. For failed open circuit, it will show the internal voltage of the meter in both forward and reverse bias. Failed in the short circuit condition it will show zero (or nearly zero) in both direction.&nbsp;</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>Q2)&nbsp;</div><div>An analogue multimeter may not automatically detect diode polarity and has to be adjusted by user and in the case of a digital multi-meter, it has to be equipped with a special "diode check" function, where it uses forward bias position and read that the voltage drops across the diode in volts instead of a resistance.          <description><![CDATA[<div>Question 1<br><br>1.	Set your multimeter to diode test mode. This is usually a symbol of a diode with a positive and negative lead.<br>2.	Identify the anode and cathode of the diode. The anode is usually marked with a stripe or band, while the cathode is not.<br>3.	Connect the red lead of your multimeter to the anode of the diode and the black lead to the cathode.<br>4.	The multimeter should display a forward voltage drop of around 0.7 volts. If it does not, or if it displays a much higher voltage drop, the diode is faulty.<br>5.	Reverse the leads of the multimeter and connect the red lead to the cathode and the black lead to the anode.<br>6.	The multimeter should display an infinite resistance. If it does not, or if it displays a very low resistance, the diode is faulty.<br><br>Question 2<br><br>Advantages of using a Digital Multimeter to test diodes is that it has a dedicated diode test mode. This mode applies a small voltage to the diode and measures the voltage drop across the diode. This gives a very accurate indication of whether the diode is good or bad.<br><br></div>]]></description>
