It is quite interesting to note that the poet attributes ecological elements such as sea, rain and thunder to the youthful force of love between fisherman and his wife as unveiled in the passage of their family life. In that sense, probing into the common beliefs in a specific community of Sri Lankan society regarding ordinary livelihood, the poet has managed to relate the poem to the native literary and cultural traditions, thereby fusing Sri Lankan identity characteristically and linguistically into English poetry.
