<title>Students are inherently interested in science and enjoy the hands on learning experiences when it comes to doing experiments; however, there is a lack of foundational knowledge in science in general when students reach 6th grade. Lack of resources for 5th grade science and a significant time constraint does not allow enough time for that hands on component. </title>

<title>In terms of science, students having the overall foundational skills that are applied within the content-problem solving, making inferences, observations, written expression, data analysis-would be crucial for them to be successful. These are skills that should be taught regardless of the specific content focus. We do not believe that they are being taught the same across buildings and grade levels and it would be helpful if they were, as it would help to set students up for success as they navigate the middle school science curriculum. </title>
