Father Miguel Hidalgo was a priest who believed in a independent Mexico, and wanted to end racial injustice and wanted to give land back to the natives. He was execcuted by the Spanish government for speaking out. This song is about someone dieing but not regretting his choisis in life and feeling happy with all he accomplished in life. A verse from the song I think perfectly illustrates this is "I fased it all and I stood tall and did it my way" this was Miguel's mind set he was going to speak his mind even if he got killed for it.

The line "nothing never lasts forever" relatets to the the Europeans losing influence on the world stage.
