Making Predictions Worksheet 2

1. His vision slowly started to fade and blurred as his eyelids felt heavier and heavier with every step he took. Frank collapsed into the hot burning sand.

EVIDENCE
1. "-the high winds blew sand at speeds that stung his exposed skin."
- this suggested he had wounds on his body.

2. "-could see his footprints for hundreds of feet,"
- he walked for so long that he has no idea how far has already gone.

3. "His steps slowed. He was getting dizzy." "He felt his knees get wobbly."
- this indicates how his energy level was decreasing at a drastic speed and he was not going to hold on for very long hence, collapsing.
________________________________________________________________________________

3. The Grandma carefully drove to the store since the roads had traces of snow and ice and got the children some winter wear.

EVIDENCE
1. "- a storm cloud rolled across the sky. The temperature suddenly dropped."
- this suggested that there was gonna be a snowstorm in the near future.

2. When Grandma asked the kids if they had any warmer clothes, they shook their heads.

3. They went to the store as it is said in the last sentence.
________________________________________________________________________________

5. When Danny reached Farmer Green, he heard a noise that sounded a lot like a stampede followed by various animal noises that made him look back only to find all the animals escaping the barn. Danny ran back to the barn but it was too late and the barn was now empty. Farmer Green just shook his head and said to Danny "It's okay boy, they got lucky. Just don't expect the next task alright? Better luck next time."

EVIDENCE
1. In the beginning of the text, Farmer Green warned Danny to lock the barn so that the animals don't escape and this gives the story a possibility of what could happen if a certain thing was to happen first.

2. "- walking away from the unlocked door"
- this tells us that Danny walked away from the unlocked door which leads us to the possibility of what Farmer Green said could happen to increase.
________________________________________________________________________________

Making Predictions Worksheet 3

1. Doris got herself fall into the creek.

EVIDENCE
1. The dog did not wait for the rope to land on the ground.

2. The probability the dog fells into the creek is high as the rope landed in the middle of the creek.
________________________________________________________________________________

3. The antique wase falls down and broke into pieces.

EVIDENCE
1. The vase was wobbling but however, Katie got mad at Eric until she bumped the pedestal with her elbow (based on the evidence)

2. The possibility of an unstable vase to fall down by a force is high (personal experience)
________________________________________________________________________________

5. Veronica finding the plants dead

EVIDENCE
1. A.J stopped by the garden once or twice at the start of the first week, and then he lost interest.
________________________________________________________________________________

7. Champ eats the pie.

EVIDENCE
1. Champ must have smelled the pie too.
2. Champ licking his lips at the end of the text.
________________________________________________________________________________

9. The scorpion gets scared and attacks Tex. Tex accidentally fires his gun in shock

EVIDENCE
1. Tex couldn't wait to get a jump on the day. Tex's eagerness may have caused the scorpion in the boot to get shocked and sting him when he puts his leg into the shoe.
________________________________________________________________________________

Making Prediction Worksheet 4
1. The ship can be seen to be slowly heading towards Jarod and finally saved him from the dreadful sea and hot weather.

EVIDENCE
1. It's started in the text that the ship is turning towards Jarod after he shot the last flare.

2. We know that flares when being shot high up in the sky can be seen from far away and plus, the ship was only 500 yards away
________________________________________________________________________________

3. Both Mr. Fox and Mr. Rabbit fell to the ground and no one gets shot.

EVIDENCE
1. The construction was just 30 feet away and the workers dropped a large steel plate on the road with the force that produced a gunshot-like sound which means it was very impactful that could throw Mr. Rabbit and Mr. Fox off their feet and ended their intense situation.

2. We know that when something like a large steel plate dropped on the road, it's going to disrupt the normality of whatever is happening nearby
________________________________________________________________________________

5. Johnny, unfortunately, fell into the icy water.

EVIDENCE
1. He stepped directly on one of the cracks which are the weakest point of the ice and surely it can't support his weight.

2. The ice layer is fragile
________________________________________________________________________________

7. She dozed off soundly without studying and she's going to panic the next morning.

EVIDENCE
1. Lisa procrastinated by watching the TV and talking on the phone and until it's too late and she's already tired.

2. Procrastination kills
________________________________________________________________________________

9. Mr. Nibbles got stuck into the mousetrap and shouted for help.

EVIDENCE
1. Mr. Nibbles walked over the mousetrap to get cheese.

2. Mousetraps are used to trap rats and they snap fast so the probability of the mouse to escape is low.
________________________________________________________________________________

Group members;
1. Mrs. Roger Fairboalt came to see the house Evelyn and Harold Piper resided in. She spoke observing the things they owned like her china collection, and the beautiful cut glass bowl. Besides going to see the house, Mrs Roger Fairboalt visited Evelyn with the intentions of confirming the rumor she had heard circulating about Evelyn and how she was having an affair with Mr. Fred Gedney.

Mrs Roger Fairboalt leaves the Piper household soon after that, and Evelyn is visited by Mr. Fred Gedney. She tells him to leave as Evelyn had promised Harold that she would no longer continue the affair she was having behind his back. To her surprise , Harold came home early that day . Evelyn tried to distract Harold in order to get Fred out of the house but to her dismay, Harold was just lounging around the house, and later, a clumsy Fred accidentally hits the cut glass bowl, causing the glass to chime, and Harold to discover the sick nature of his wife's affair with Fred, even after her promise to him.
Their marriage continued but was never the same. Evelyn also proceeded to have children. When receiving the cut glass bowl as a gift, Evelyn did not think deep into the words of the broken hearted gifter, when she really should have.

Through the years, Evelyn goes through a midlife crisis. She avoids social events such as dinner parties. She stopped caring about the way she looked and how people perceived her. The cut glass bowl remains in her life, lingering like a ghost of the past that just won't stop tapping on her shoulder.
Harold had told Evelyn that he was going to be inviting some friends over to their house for dinner to celebrate Evelyn's 35th birthday. Evelyn prepared their humble abode for the presence of Harold's friends and business partners. The cut glass bowl was put on the floor while Evelyn cleaned her house. Her daughter touches the cut glass bowl and cuts her hand on it. Evelyn is shocked and nurses her daughter's wound. The cut glass bowl was to be used to put in punch for the guests tonight. Harold had specifically requested the cut glass bowl as it was the biggest bowl they owned, and he wanted his guests to be well-fed on punch. Sure enough, as the curse of the cut glass bowl goes on, the dinner party went haywire fast. The men at the dinner party had too much to drink, thus resulting in conflicts in their business deals and discussions.
A daughter that cuts her hand, and a husband whose business deal goes berserk all due to a cut glass bowl.

In the end, the cut glass bowl seems to resemble the protagonist herself. How it is just as empty, and 'easy to see through'. Logically, Evelyn's husband, Harold Piper, contributed to this by not forgiving her over something he himself did not know for sure or care enough to seek an explanation for. Evelyn's children did not believe of her affair and merely thought it was just a friendship of flirtatious nature. Human emotions distract us from logic, and maybe our own assumptions leads to misunderstandings and clouded conclusions, and maybe that was the curse all along.

Story: Parson's Pleasure by Roald Dahl

The story revolves around Mr. Boggis, an antique furniture reseller that has a talent of making himself compatible with his clients, making him a good salesman and have no trouble with sales. He has a good eye in spotting rare and valuable pieces of furniture although he does not sell much furniture at one time, he makes a tidy amount of income from his sales that is not much but enough to keep him satisfied throughout the year.

His secret to finding these rare furnitures was from his very first time accidentally finding a rare furniture in a farmhouse which led to more exertions in countrysides and farmhouses in search for rare and valuable pieces of antique furniture that would later bring him vast fortune. His technique to gain these pieces of art is through his cheeky sly ways of tricking the owners of the farmhouse into letting him into the house by pretending to be a parson. If he spots a valuable piece, he will then concoct an elaborated lie about needing the furniture for the Society for the Preservation of Rare Furniture which he is supposedly a part of.

One day he decides to go to Birminghamshire and finds himself in a farmhouse. At the farmhouse were the owners, Mr Rummins and his son Bert and their neighbor Claude. The trio were immediately suspicious of the presence of Mr. Boggis dressed as a parson. After gaining entrance into the house, Mr Boggis faked a heart attack after getting overexcited at the sight of a Chippendale Commode, a very rare piece of furniture designed and hand crafted by the great designer Thomas Chippendale of Mid Georgian era. After arguing and dealing about the price of the furniture, both parties agreed on 20$ for the leg of the drawer although Mr. Boggis secretly wanted to sell off the whole drawer for 20, 000$. When Mr. Boggis went to get his car to load the furniture, Mr Rummins and Bert decides to cut the leg of the drawer because they assumed Mr. Boggis’s car was not big enough for the drawer. The story ends with Mr. Rummins waiting for Mr. Boggis after cutting of the leg of the drawer.

DREAMS VS REALITY.

The blue waters and the Mediterranean, comfortable hammocks and not to forget the exquisite pina coladas. You close your eyes and mutter "ah , heaven ! ". Out of nowhere , a booming voice echoes " HEY , BACK TO WORK ! ". Snapped back to reality , you get working on the overdue report again. Have you ever been hit by a similar situation ? Below is the difference between a dream and a reality.

Dreams are works of fantasy, only bound by the limits of imagination and creativity that anyone could think of. Reality works on the basis of the real world, chained by the laws of nature that we are educated about or on the basis of our own experience. Everyone has the power to develop a dream from mere boundaries imagination into ground into groundbreaking reality. The reason is because people tend to indulge in their own dream rather than accepting the fact that they are living in the real world filled with hardships. For example , they rather dream of achieving it instead of working towards their goals. That is the difference between fantasy and reality.

Before the sun sets on this topic, the fact that dreams can actually become products of reality combined with the epitomes of hardwork, undying perseverance and never-say-die attitude can yield immense results. Hardwork towards dreams should be cultivated in order to inspire amazing achievements in the history of mankind. Going by the words of Walt Disney himself, "All our dreams can be true, if we have he courage to pursue them".

Throughout the centuries, males have always been deemed as the dominant ones and females, their counterpart, a king with a queen behind the throne, a superhero, and a sidekick, never equal yet always co-existing, taking two to tango. That was the case till not so long ago. Lately, there has been a vise in feminist movements championing for equal rights between gender because both male and female of the homosapiens of the world make up our society hence we do not need to discriminate against one another because really, we do have things in common. Despite our obvious differences and stereotypes, we, male and female share similarities as well.

One of the similitudes of Adam and Eve is that both genders have the capability to feel things spiritually, mentally, emotionally and physically. The stereotype where men are required to always maintain a calm composure does not mean they are not in touch with the emotional state of mind present in every human being. But ladies and gentlemen, in our day and age, we are more open to associate the feelings of both genders to life experience and how they were raised rather than linking their capability to feel by their respective genders hence, both genders have the liberation to feel whatever they want to feel regardless of society's instructions and rules. Now we can all agree that Adam and Eve are nothing but equal slaves to their feelings.

In a nutshell, men, and women are parallel no matter how contrasting they may seem to one another. In our opinion, if we all look at each other as equals, acknowledge similarities, appreciate differences, and let each other express individualism, maybe sexism wouldn't even exist in our community. As what Zac Efron sang in the 2007 movie Hairspray, "It takes two, baby, it takes two."

As Henry Giles says:” People creep into childhood, bound into youth, sober into adulthood, and soften into old age. “Growing up is an inevitable path that everyone has to face, in each stage we carry different responsibilities, thus as we step into our adulthood, we enter a new phase that is separated from our childhood.

Childhood and adulthood are two different times in everyone’s lives, one of the differences between childhood and adulthood is responsibility. Children are always forgivable for their mistakes, as children are still in the period that are taken care by adults, they are relatively more care free. Whereby when people reach their adulthood, they’re seen as an independent person who can take care of them self, they’re expected to be responsible, independent and self reliant, most importantly, they have to take responsibility for all their action, whether it’s good or bad. In Singapore for example, a child is legally defined as someone under the age 14 under the “Children and Young Persons Act”, whereas the age of majority is 21, it’s when you have the right to vote. Therefore, as people step into adulthood, they have different responsibilities to carry.

In conclusion, even though it’s hard to define when is the age for someone to be consider children or adult, however, when someone has enter their adulthood, he or she will definitely have to take more responsibilities than how they used to be in their childhood.

The time is around 12 a.m. You’re tired, then you look at your left. You see a huge bundle of document files. The office is pitch black and there’s only one light flashing above you. Everyone went home except you. The light reflects on the family photo frame. You miss them, but you want the best for them. Then you start to contemplate is it good or bad that you’re overworking? Here are the good and bad aspects of overworking.

Let us start of with the good aspects of overworking. When we start to overwork we tend to be productive which let us to achieve and complete more work in a short span of time. For an example if our boss gave us a project due in 2 weeks, overworking is the best aspect for a worker to achieve faster result, compared with the other workers. Now for the bad aspects of overworking, it’s very stressful because we focus more on our work which leave us less time for ourselves and our family. It’s also bad for our health because it impairs our sleep, which result in health problems. In the end it’s all depends on the workers choices.

Overworking is a good trait, but sacrifices are needed. Overworking help us to earn more income, either for the needs or the wants. Although it’s bad for our health and social life, but it’s mostly depends on personal choices. So, which one would you prefer?

TYPES OF PART-TIME JOBS FOR COLLEGE STUDENTS

In this day and age, money is everything and we can all now agree to that despite people saying the otherwise. College students have been struggling more than before in keeping their studies in check and at the same time, being financially stable. Not all students are granted scholarships or parents who can sponsor them on tuition fees and allowances, so some might want to spend their free time at a workplace. With that being said, students who need more security financially should start to eye on the part-time jobs that exist out there that can be divided into different types; sharing economy jobs, work-study jobs, and food services jobs.

Sharing economy jobs is one of the part-time jobs that students can go for. Sharing economy jobs is where people exchange and share their ideas with one another. This is suitable for those who like to explore and meet new people. An example of sharing economy job is freelancing. Freelancing allows a person to be creative in their own ways. The advantage of being a freelancer is that freelancing is a platform to advertise your skills and creativity. By doing so, you will be recognized and professionals might even hire you. Another example of sharing economy jobs is being a driver. Apps such as Grab or Uber allows people including college students to earn cash in the simplest form as long as you own a car. This job is suitable for those who like to drive around, so why not take this opportunity as a person who likes to cruise around the city to earn some cash. Sharing economy jobs for college students is suitable for them as jobs like these can be flexible for them.

Next, students also can look at work-study jobs. This means finding a job just around their campus area. It would be a great advantage for those who do not have an easy access to transportation and would not like to spend money on public transport just to get to the workplace. Examples of work-study jobs are cafeteria worker, campus tour guide, and also library assistant. There is more than just you saving money from spending it on transportation. The best part is that no working experience is needed for you to apply for the job and if you work at the cafeteria, you will most likely to get free meals and that is a jackpot over there. If you are going to go for library assistant, you will have more than free time to do your homework and plus, the place is very conducive to do so. Working as a campus tour guide would be perfect for those who are passionate about their campus. It can also be a good public speaking practice as you have to speak in front of people for this job. Additionally, it is rather an easy job as long as you are willing to tour the whole campus. Certainly, work-study jobs must be on the list of those who are on a job hunt.

Last but not least, if you like serving, then food service job is the best for you. Entering this food and beverage platform may give you great experience in food handling. Examples of jobs that you can get involved with are catering, a server at a restaurant and a bartender if you like mixing up drinks. Being involved in this is amazing because you will be learning to serve your customers well. Being a server in a restaurant is actually a big responsibility because you have to take care of your customers as soon as they entered the restaurant. Catering is bigger and it often takes place in events such as birthday parties. So, if a food lover or you just want to experience handling food and customers, food service jobs is where you would consider.

In a nutshell, there are many jobs out there for students to choose from; sharing economy jobs, work-study jobs, and food services jobs. By finding jobs to support the college life, it can actually help you to become a better person. You will learn to become independent and disciplined. Moreover, it will lessen the financial pressure. There is always a way if there is a will. So, if you are one of the students who can relate to this, start taking the initiative now to change your current state for the betterment of it.

You just walked back from college. You look at the time at your dorm room clock. You realize that you have a lot of time to 🤬 but nothing to do. Suddenly your parents call and told you that they have send some money to your bank account. Then it just clicked. You can find a job to earn some money instead of relying from your parents. And you started to get overwhelmed with all the possible jobs you can get for part time. So what kinds of part time jobs are suitable for you? You might think that there are many jobs, but you must consider a job which doesn’t collide with your studies which are suitable for students.

Jobs that I can recommend for students are work as a cashier in a shop, waiter in a restaurant and a sales attendant in an apparel shop which doesn’t collide with our study schedules. These works are so flexible for college students because the time can be discussed with the owner. Therefore, you can divide your studies and work equally. Moreover, these works don’t need much requirements for students. It focusses on giving service to others. From this, students can develop skills from their work which helps them in their further studies. In addition, students can also learn about responsibility and punctuality which gives some knowledge about the value of money and learn how to work as a member in a team which helps in the future career. For example, if students earn money by their own, they know how hard it is to earn money and work. Students can also learn to organize their time by using the time to do some productive work. They also be more prepared for their college projects and exams which will help to develop their grades. The jobs that I mentioned above are suitable for students to earn some money while focusing on the studies. It will also reduce the parent’s burden by using your own money instead of theirs.

By working, students can learn to be more responsible adults which better prepare them when they have their official job.I think teenagers should be allowed to do some part-time jobs to adapt to the working environment and get lessons from real life.

Picture this scenario. Your friends are planning to hang out after lectures to go watch the latest blockbuster film. One guy is assign to buy movie tickets and all of your friends hand out their particular share . You reach in into your wallet only to realize that you're broke for the month. You realize you may not be able to join them this time. Had you ever been in this situation? As a student, money is important to fulfill your needs and your wants. A good way to earn money is to hold a part-time job. These are a few good choices you could consider.

If you are a person that enjoys serving others or has a passion for food, then you may enjoy working in places such as restaurants and coffee shops. The joy of serving others can lend you a job as a waiter or if you have a desire to learn about different types of beverages, you can choose to be a barista if you have a love for coffee or as a juice maker if you love to promote the idea of healthy eating. Food trucks are also a great choice as they are a craze nowadays and you could learn to cook amazing and simple dishes for yourself.

For those who want to gain an upper hand in an industry that is relevant to their career, it's best to focus on office jobs that associates with your current college pathways. For social media freaks, your 'useless' skills can put up to good use as they are businesses that requires social media managers that could promote their brand to a bigger audience. You could work as a freelancer to these businesses by providing services to companies that needs someone with skills they don't possess like a graphic designer that could create a new logo for an existing company.

Nowadays, not everyone needs to apply for jobs to earn money as they could easily earn it independently through utilizing their talents and market themselves for anyone who needs their particular set of skills. If you enjoy photography as a hobby, you could earn it through freelancing and fulfilling other's request in taking good quality photos. Even something as simple as baking could rake in customers to order another batch of your delicious homemade cookies.

With the necessities being piled up for college students and the lack of funds to satisfy those needs, part-time jobs are a blessing for those searching for a boost to your spending power and still being able to carry on with your studies with its flexible timing. If you are one of them who are struggling with these difficulties, you can begin your first step by just looking out around your local area as there are a bountiful amounts of opportunities lying ahead.

In this treacherous world economic state, it is reasonable to see why many college students are working part-time jobs. Although it is commonly believed to hinder the progress and performance of the student in academic related aspects, it is actually quite the contrary. There is little to nothing to lose, and much to gain for students who choose to pick up a part-time job.

Students with part-time jobs learn more about responsibility and time management. In respect to making plans, school schedules and work, discipline is also practiced as students who work face actual penalties and consequences when they do not get something done or when they are absent from work. This also puts them one step ahead of their peers, opening their eyes to the reality of a waking work life. Even Steve Jobs mentioned how his first part-time job at McDonald's shaped him to be the successful man that he was. Jobs in either retail or in a cafe would help a student in sharpening these motor skills.

Working while in college might be sturdy, however, picking the right part-time job for you can make all the difference. Usually, students will look up for jobs outside of campus which they offer you a larger salary. However, if you’re a student who is concerned on your academic matter, on-campus jobs would be your first choice in choosing part-time jobs for yourself as they offer you ‘learning while working’ experience, for example, library monitor. It is a pretty easy job for a student who doesn’t have enough time to devote to academic as you can surround yourself with quiet and peaceful plus with lots of downtimes where you can spend the remaining time to study. Therefore, it would be a great choice for a busy and hardworking student to apply library monitor as their part-time job.

Furthermore, for an adventure-seeking student, off-campus part-time jobs such as barista, cashier, salesperson or even Grab/Uber driver would be a great starter. These kind of jobs are most likely flexible as they are readily available in the most college town. Thus, students who are new to working exposure no need to worry about previous job experience as this kind of jobs need no background experience to apply. Therefore, working in a different atmosphere will train us to work in a group, to communicate more effectively and to gain more knowledge. Hence, these would be a great starter for adventure-seeking students.

In conclusion, choosing part-time jobs is a great deal for a student especially in this treacherous world economical state. As a student, we have to make a good choice in choosing part-time jobs as it will affect our self-management in the future.

Internships can be good experience for students especially when it is associated with the industry that they are studying for as it may serve as practical work which can later be a good boost for future resumes.

In a nutshell, minimum wage jobs, tutoring, and internships are the examples of part-time jobs that students usually go for. Before taking up a part-time job, it is suggested that students prepare themselves mentally and physically because having a job means more commitment despite it being part-time.
