In todays lesson, I Decided to focus on my primary research. This was because I used my time outside of college to make a start on my secondary research. This was more efficient as primary research required more people and I thought college would be the perfect place to utilise the sheer mass of people that attend Harlow College. As my 1 to 1 interviews weren't about media and more about the topic of mental health, The people within the media block would be useable. If my interview would have been about media related topics then I would have to venture out a little further as I would be unable to use my peers within the subject. This is because They would have inside knowledge on the topic and therefore may answer questions with bias.

In todays lesson, I decided to take part in a photoshop tutorial, and also collard the results for the questionnaire that I created yesterday. I believe that my skills regarding Photoshop and of an average level but I wanted to improve certain aspects so I could implement them on my FMP. My project is involving animation. In animation many people use rigging in oder to make objects appear as though they are floating. this is one of the many different techniques that can be applied to an animated piece of work to boost it to a higher standard. After completing this workshop, I decided to continue with my secondary research. This consisted of looking at how mathematics is used within the media industry and also researching the different shot type that are predominantly used in well known animated pieces of work. This was to improve my knowledge of the industry but also to help me develop my idea. From this research I have since decided to change my camera view from straight on to bird's eye view. After completing my secondary research I then went on to collating my primary research results.

In todays lesson, I decided to focus on some secondary research. this included creating a document looking at some professionals in the animation industry. In this document I looked at Norman McLaren, Michael Langan, Jared Goldberg and Segundo de Chomon. This is because each of these professionals have created at least one piece of work that has influenced our idea. The only issue with these animators is that they all only use the straight on camera approach. This isn't the style we were looking to use so I also created another document in which I looked at the Birds eye view camera technique. I found a piece called "Her Morning Elegance" by Oren Lavie. This was exactly the style we were looking to achieve. A birds eye view shot type, the use of clothing to make other objects. The only huge difference between the two projects is that in Her Morning Elegance, there is also an actor present. We did think about using an act but decided against it as we thought there would be too many issue involved. For example, it is extremely difficult for a human being to remain completely still. this would result in a lot of re-shoots being needed, which would then take a lot more time and as we only have four days to film the visuals for our project, we decided that this would be a wast of time.

In todays lesson, we started pre-production. This meant that we had two weeks to complete all of the required documents. This is why we decided to create a production schedule as our first document. A production schedule will allow us to be a lot more organised to stop us from wasting our time. We had decided to complete two documents each, per day. the only exception to this was the storyboard. This was because the storyboard is a very large document that takes a long time to finish. After finishing the production schedule I decided to attend one of Dave's workshops. This workshop was for editing techniques. This is very important for me as I feel as though editing isn't one of my strengths.

In todays lesson, my target was to create a crew profile and also to develop the narrative of the idea. To begin with, myself and Ben sat down in one of the private booths to have a recorded conversation about the idea and how we could develop it. We had both been researching different animations and in this discussion we decided to compare the most popular animations and see what similarities they had. We found out that most of the successful animations were not pixilation. This is why we decided to change the idea from pixilation to only object animation in which we will be using clothes to make other objects for example, a desk or a window. After completing our meeting, we decided to quickly complete our crew profile. This was a very easy document as all of the information was the same as previous units. This meant that we didn't have to change much at all. The only thing that may have changed is the job roles we had. The last thing we decided to do for today was to plan and setup for our experimentation for tomorrow. We decided to experiment with different animation techniques. This would be so we could make our project as professional as possible. In Neighbours, by Norman McLaren, lots of different techniques are used. For example, in the scene with the two characters jumping in the air, there is a use of anticipation as they bend their legs before jumping. Small detail like these are things that a lot of people notice when watching animations. This is why it is a must that we focus on the principles of animation.

In todays lesson I decided to carry on with pre-production but before I could do that I needed to make sure all of my work for task 2 was visible as my tour was having issues with finding the work. This was a simple issue to resolve as it was just a case of making my padlet wall public. These type of issues are very common when uploading work to the internet. This is how we know how to fix them so easily. Other problems like loss of work or corrupt files are much more difficult to resolve as they aren't particularly common. But I still make sure I prepare myself for the types of problems by backing up my documents onto a USB stick or an external hard drive. This makes the painful problem of losing your work less possible. It also means that you won't have to spend the limited amount of time we have on re-shooting.

In todays lesson, Graham and I spoke to our tutor for some feedback. This was mainly for us to develop our storyboards. We received some very helpful feedback as we were told that some things didn't make sense. For example, we had a scene where the main character opens up his curtains to reveal the sun. This was supposed to symbolise the fact that he was happy as darkness is often linked with unhappy times. To myself and Ben, this made sense but out client didn't really seem to think it worked vey well. This is a great example of how you can get too immersed into your production and you can end up not seeing the flaws. This is why it is vital to any production for you to get some audience feedback. The best way to do this would be to hold a focus group consisting of your potential audience. This is because it allows you to get the opinion of the people who could be watching the advert in a quick but detailed manner. In comparison to big companies within the industry we have to do things to a much smaller scale. Bigger companies in the media industry have the ability to put questionnaires or survey sites in which the participants get paid to complete it. This allows the company to get a large amount of feedback as people are more inclined to do things when there is money involved. As we are college students and have no budget, we are unable to do such things so we just have to rely on people being happy to help out.

Today was our penultimate filming day as we only have next Tuesday to finish shooting. This meant that we had to complete two of the remaining four scenes leaving us another two for next Tuesday. As we had to get two scenes filmed in one day we already had enough pressure without any problems adding to that. Unfortunately there were some problems we had to face. Firstly, after filming for no more than twenty minutes, some other people entered the photo studio and were constantly walking in and out, past our work. As well as being very distracting, someone also accidentally moved some of the clothes as they walked past. This was a problem that we could not prevent but it was one that we had to find a solution for. The only possible solution was to re -shoot the scenes that were taken before the problem. Luckily for us, That was only about 15 pictures but if something like that had happened later on in the day after filming 150 pictures, then we would have to find another solution. The solution for this issue would be to look at the previous frames and try to remake the set to look like it did before. This will not be perfect though so some extra editing will be needed.

Today was the day I decided to get all of my written work completed, including working on my feedback from task 2. As Ben was absent today, I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to complete this type of work as all other tasks will need ben present. I also wanted to be as organised as possible so I made a list of all work needed to complete and at what times I was going to complete them. I anticipated for all tasks to be finished by 3pm but I completed some of the tasks much quicker than I planned. As I found myself finished by 11:30 am I decided to get ahead on Editing. This task only took 45 minutes or so as I could only import the video footage and order all of the clips. I was unable to import the audio for scene 2 and scene 5 as it had not been recorded yet. This is one of the issues related to team members being absent. Ben will be needed for recording the audio as I recorded the audio for scene 1 and scene 4. This will allow us to both get graded on our audio recording skills. Another problem related to ream members being absent is that meetings are non-existent. To combat this issue I have recorded myself explaining the issues from today and what I plan to do over the weekend in preparation for next week.

I had only just received some feedback from my peers and they said that the ending is quite underwhelming. This was because it ends quite quickly and the whole point of the story gets a bit lost. To amend this issue, I worked alongside Ben to make an alternative ending using words in quotation words to emphasise the points stated in the narration. This made the advert much easier to understand.
