By Sunday of Week 3: 1) sign in to Padlet or type your full name in the title of your new post for credit! 2) Write about where you struggled this week, what you learned this week, what you most enjoyed, and how to use your new found knowledge and skills in class work and beyond! 3) Link or upload a photo of your assigned artwork for the week, so we can celebrate each others' creations!
4) Respond to a classmate's post (try to pick someone that hasn't gotten a response yet) that interests you. Look for connections with your own experience or ideas that were sparked by his/her post. Make sure to either sign in to Padlet or write your name, so your classmate knows who is responding!

This week I struggled in trying to mix the primary colors to get a color that I was satisfied with. I never do water coloring but this was a fun experience and i learned to be patient with it because you need to constantly “charge” the brush and it takes time to dry. I also learned that you can put water on the paper then add a color to make it lighter. I mean it is common sense but seeing it spread out was pretty cool and satisfying. I will use my new knowledge in the future by using more watercolors than acrylic paint in my projects.

This week I was extremely interested to learn the complexity of colors and how they create such a unique pattern together, whether its complimentary, or in contrast, they create a beautiful dance of life. Learning terms like analogous, tertiary, split compliments, and of course the psychological effects of each color is fascinating, as to understanding the deep meaning and effects and affects. It truly brings everything to life in a beautiful way, awakens feelings, thoughts, and appreciation furthermore within me. I found it interesting and a fun experiment with the primary and secondary watercolors. At first glance I found it overwhelming to look at the color wheel and the combinations and terms. However, I quickly started to make sense as I dived into the new knowledge. I appreciate color so much more now.

This was a fascinating week. With all of the art classes I took in high school, while it was some time ago, didn’t cover this content. I especially appreciated light logic, the intensity of the color chart and the value/tone chart. It made sense when I followed along with Professor Rob filling in each box, with 1,2,3 & 5 layers of hatching…super cool! Finding the right balance of colors for each box on my pallet really challenged me, but I had a great time in class this week!

This week was interesting and fun! I struggled with understanding the written instructions at first, but thank goodness for the video demonstration. I enjoyed being able to start using our paint, which I feel is much more experimental then just sketching. It was very unique to see the wonders mixing colors can do to create such diverse shades. It was so satisfying to me to peel off the painters tape and seeing the color chart finished. This weeks assignment was definitely a cool one.

This week’s assignment was ‘right in my wheelhouse’. I like tactile learning and had the most fun playing with paints, even using the excess paint to create blue green and yellow ink splotches that resembled a Rorschach cards (think the black and white inkblot psychology test thingy).
For me, colors really have an affect on my mood. I love vibrant colors so much, I avoid black like the plague … black clothing, black home decor, black pen ink, etc.. It’s something weird I picked up from living in Alaska. When one has lived in winter’s semi-darkness for 6 months out of the year for over 8 years, one tends to avoid anything dark. So, I couldn’t let the last color I painted for this assignment be darkish, so much so that I made the ink splotches with more vibrant colors to help lift my mood before concluding my painting session.

This week I struggled with keeping the paint from bleeding through the tape as well as peeling the tape off without ripping the paper. The first time I tried, the paper got really messed up when I removed the tape, then I realized that the colors had bled out of the boxes. The second time I tried it it was better than the first, but I still had some problems. I learned that you can go over the paint that’s already there and give it a faded effect. I enjoyed using watercolors since I haven’t used them for a really long time and forgot how fun it is.

This week I struggled in mixing secondary colors. I'm fairly new to watercolor so mixing the colors together was kind of hard. However, the assignment challenged my watercolors skills I never had. I like that my work came out nice. The color chart reminds me of a beautiful rainbow, and the meaning behind each color represents emotion. I'm learning to embrace colors and not be afraid using them in any art work. I think the best part of this assignment was painting the colors to the paper. It felt close to a ASMR therapy, its so relaxing.

This week was okay... I got really frustrated trying to mix the colors and get a strong pigment. I don't think I've ever painted with water colors before, only acrylics so it was definitely different and took some getting used to. I don't know, but the mixing to get to brown took forever and I still don't think it looks that great.
On a side note, my daughter really enjoyed sitting in my lap and watching me paint. She even tried to "help" me a couple times.

This week I actually enjoyed working with the water color because it is something that I haven’t worked with in a long time. Something that I struggled with this week was building the colors of the watercolors and making them appear more pigmented on the paper. It was different because I am more familiar using acrylic paint where it is easier to have the colors be more vibrant in the artwork. I also had difficulty in finding the right amount of each color to be mixed that will result in the desired color for the chart.

This week I struggled with the color palette the most. I had didn't have blue painters tape so I just created my own table kinda thing with a ruler and measured everything out. It wasn't that difficult it was more a hassle measuring it out but I guess I enjoyed it because I am a perfectionist when it comes to creating chart lines. It was harder to stay in the lines with the paint but that is okay. It was fun to learn how to create all the colors even though I already knew I love watching videos of people mixing colors to create a new color.

This week was fun but definitely a struggle. I think the hardest part more me this week was the ending of the water color assignment. Blending the browns took a fair amount of time and I am still not completely satisfied with the outcome. I think once good thing to keep in mind is to make a fairly good excessive amount of blended colors. At one point I ran out and had to blend secondary colors again. Another thing I think I will keep in my repertoire will be the priming with water to create a gradient. I did enjoy learning about the multiple ways colors are used. I liked learning about the color schemes and how they have been used in paintings throughout history.

I had some struggles mixing the colors because sometimes you could see more of one color then the other. Because of that it didnt look like the color I was going for. And I also never thought to push the tape down in the paper really good so you can see some of the boxes have paint that leaked under the tape. But I learned alot from this and it was fun to do.

Hey all! I struggled this week particularly on our art assignment. The instructions were easy to follow (thank you Professor) but blending the paints together to create the somewhat exact color you were looking for was difficult. It’s definitely a ratio thing but the assignment did help me understand how to blend better. I do appreciate doing the artistic assignments though. It calms me and brings me back to earth. Have a good rest of your week, everyone 🤙🏼

I struggled this week a lot to find time. I had a sever family matter come up this past week. I lost my mother last night. I sat with her as she took her last breathes. She was an artist and has inspired me to al least try art. So I am blessed to go through this while taking this class. I learned to be patient with myself, while taking on new endeavors in an already busy schedule. It will take time to adjust. I also struggled with peeling off the tape. I enjoyed painting and mixing colors. My cosmetology background help with the blending of colors because I know with hair color blue tones are strong with the largest molecules so when mixing I knew not to add too much blue and with yellow I had to add more because those molecules are smaller. This week was a tough one for my life in general. Going through all of this while taking art will help me express my emotions creatively and effectively.

This week I struggled with mixing the colors and finding the right hues. Some of them aren't regular colors so I had to be a bit creative, but regardless I had alot of fun testing out the water colors and I think it'll be fun to use them alot more in the future. (I also lost the painters tape i had sadly-)

This week what I really struggled with was mixing my colors to get a brown. I wasn't;t really satisfied with the browns I came up with after mixing my colors. One of my browns looked a little more purple. I will say I really enjoyed this weeks lesson I do love to paint and I love acrylic painting too. I learned from this week when it comes to mixing colors how much the right amount of water to use and paint. It was a little challenging to to keep up with the instructions but luckily I was double checking as I was going.

Aloha! This week I struggled with blending. I didnt think blending crayola water colors would be so frustrating. I thought this would be easy since I used water colors in pre-school and elementary...didnt think I'd be using them 20+ years later lol. Although I did enjoy trying to mix colors and painting anything since it's been a while. I had a harder time mixing brown and green. Not so sure why with green...I guess its because I rushed trying to clean my brush and didnt get off the previous color I had since yellow was involved.

If I am being honest this week I struggled with time management. As you can see I just finished this assignment and am turning it in about ten minutes before the deadline ahhh! I will be smarter about my time and manage it better for next weeks assignments so that I am not rushing to finish them last minute. I really enjoyed doing this assignment because I got to experiment a little with mixing the colors and seeing what comes out of it. I also find it satisfying to rip off the tape and see the straight boxes form haha. I can't wait to do more painting activities !

I struggled in keeping my work neat. I had paint everywhere. The tape was taken off to ruff, left my paint smeared.
Things I noted for next painting assignment; Ill use a sponge to dry my brush, keep the cup of water off to the side so i don't get drips on my paper, or knock over the cup again and lastly, how the tape is handled matters.
