Hello sixth grade parents! Can you believe it's time for students to choose their courses for seventh grade? Parents and students can view course requests through Skyward starting January 21. The window for students to select their courses is from January 21 - 31. Once the window closes, you will not have access to view or make change through Skyward. **Parents can VIEW courses through Parent Access in Skyward but selections can only be made using the student log in.

Before choosing classes for next year, there are a few things you should know.

All students need to have a total of 16 credits.
All core subjects AUTOMATICALLY rolled over and will be selected for students. If your student currently takes honors classes, honors core classes will be selected for them. Students cannot change the level of their classes in Skyward, level changes must be made by Mrs. Holder (Use the "Change Request Google Form")
Students taking choir and band this year will AUTOMATICALLY have choir or band selected for them. Changes to choir or band must be made by Mrs. Holder. (Use the "Change Request Google Form")
All students will be enrolled in 7th grade PE. After students try out for athletics and make it, the coaches will let us know which students need to move from PE to Athletics. One of the counselors will move the student from PE to Athletics. **Athletics takes the place of PE, not an elective.

HOW DO I SIGN UP FOR OFF-CAMPUS PE?

Off campus PE (OCPE) allows students who are developing advanced athletic skills to earn course credit. Students taking OCPE may not enroll in athletics or any other physical education course while participating. Students must complete and submit an application through GISD. The application and additional information is available on the GISD website.

CAN MY STUDENT TAKE SPANISH NEXT YEAR?

Some students have the option of taking Spanish 1 in seventh grade. Keep in mind that Spanish 1 is a high school course for high school credit.

Students currently enrolled in honors literacy enrichment will automatically be enrolled in Spanish next year. If a student does not want to take Spanish, their parent should complete the COS Change form listing a second elective to replace Spanish I .
Students in regular literacy enrichment will automatically be enrolled in literacy enrichment for seventh grade. If the student masters on the STAAR Reading test, they can enroll in Spanish 1 or choose another elective.

HOW MANY ELECTIVES CAN I TAKE?

All students must have 16 credits. The number of electives a student can choose is different for every student. Generally, students will choose one elective for next year but students who do not need to take literacy enrichment in seventh grade can choose a second elective.

HOW DO I CHANGE THE COURSES THAT ARE ALREADY SELECTED FOR ME?

Students do not have access to change any course that automatically rolled over in Skyward. Those changes must be made by Mrs. Holder. Complete the COS Change Request Form.
