Nuclear FUSION is joining two atoms together and harnessing the energy from the reaction. We are already living off of nuclear fusion. The Sun fuses two hydrogen atoms together to create a helium atom. This releases huge amounts of energy. The Sun's energy and sunlight is what fuels life on Earth. 
Our machine does the same thing in a smaller, safer way. We put hydrogen atoms in one end of the machine, make them fuse together, collect the heat energy from the reaction, and release the newly formed helium at the other end of the machine. The heat energy can be used to turn steam turbines and many other ways.
