Also in this chapter archaeologist Stephanie Bandy and Molly Quast study the site of where the St. Mary’s church was, when they were digging Bandy noticed something hard in the soil. At first she thought it was a rock when she was mistaken for a coffin. The coffins were made from led, and in the colonial time led coffins were very rare only the wealthy or very important people got led coffins. While this was going on television shows and newspapers were broadcasting the the amazing find. To make sure there was only 3 coffins they photographed and mapped them; then they buried the grave shaft back up. In August of 1992 every thing had been planned for the excavation. Every scientist had a part to play and collected samples when they needed to from the grave shaft, soil, and the coffins.
