These types of fossils are usually found near sedimentary rock and volcanoes worldwide. Pretty much any living organism can become petrified. The most commonly found one is wood. However, there can be petrified bones and teeth! I think that it's very beautiful when a fossil becomes petrified because the process is taking something such as bone or wood and turning into a rock. A trace fossil is a fossil of a footprint, trail, impression, or other trace of an animal rather than of the animal itself. Trace fossil is my favorite type of fossil. Trace fossils can be found in rocks or in the ground if the print has been undisturbed.

They don’t just have to be bones. Teeth, footprints, bite marks, and indents are all fossils. My favorite type of fossil is a Mold & Cast Fossil. They are fossils that exist where an animal died even after the animal decomposed. Normally, you would just get bones after that. But Mold & Cast Fossils are fossils where rocks form any harden around the animal. That gives you a lot of information about how that animal looked. And it doesn’t just work for animals, It works for almost everything. They are found in mud and clay that turns to stone.
