I think stereotypes is a major theme in the book because the Greasers and the Soc's have stereotypes about the way they dress the way they are and the way they treat people. But as Cherry said "Things are rough all over" so they just needed to get by the stereotypes and realize that they are all just human and it doesn't matter what you wear, where you live and who your friends are because everyone is equal.

Equality is a big part of the novel because as Cherry said "its rough all over" and she was right except it is rough in different ways, and that was one of the things that The Socs and Greasers needed to realize was that everyone has problems and that if you just get past all the fighting they would have a lot in common.

One of the themes of the novel was the Greasers understanding of being The Outsiders. According to Google's definition; an outsider is somebody who does not belong or someone who is though to have a little chance of success. This was something they were taught and knew growing up never fitting in with the Soc's on the other side of Tulsa. In the end, the Greasers showed that they could be just as good as the Soc's.

I feel like one of the main themes is family. Since Ponyboy, Soda and Darry kind of have it tough since the lost their parents. In the beginning of the story Pony thinks that Darry doesn't love him and doesn't treat him like Soda. Many things happen the brothers like Darry slapping Pony and then Pony running away. There were many different emotions but at the end the main thing is how family sticks together and no matter what they love each other. That's another reason why Pony doesn't want to leave Darry and to go into a boy's home.

I feel like the main theme of The Outsiders is bonding because the Greasers and the Socs bonded with their own group. The Greasers were a very tight group because in the book it states how nothing is quiet and that the gang is always over at Ponyboy's house. The Socs bonded together over Bob's death and when Randy came up to Ponyboy and said he wasn't going to the rumble, it showed how much the Socs cared about Bob's death. And in the end of the book at the hearing it showed how much the Socs and the Greasers bonded because the Socs could of lied saying that Ponyboy killed Bob, but since they had been through 3 deaths in a week they stuck to the truth and stayed honest even when they were arch rivals.

I chose this because at the beginning of the book, everyone was stuck in the stereotypes that society put them in. Towards the end Ponyboy figures out that identity doesn't matter. He also makes friends with Randy and Cherry to break the boundaries.

I chose courage as the theme because Ponyboy and his gang helped out even though they knew the consequences. Just like when Johnny and Ponyboy rushed into the church to help the little kids. Knowing they might get hurt too. Plus, they chose to throw away their pride and identity which is something hard for people to do. Especially when you don't have anything else left. However, I feel like some of these bravery aren't recognized like Dallas. He fought for what he though was right, but to others, he is just a hood.

I think that gallancy is one of the themes in the Outsiders because 3 people died trying to be heroic or brave and it really brings together the characters of both the greasers and the socs. Also, the bravery of some of the characters in both of the gangs were astonishing, Jhonny sacrificing himself to save a kid and Dallas bluffing so he would get shot.

I think that the main theme of The Outsiders is discrimination because the greasers are all put down by the socs just based on where they live and what they wear. They are mostly discriminated on how they look because they look like hoodlums according to the press and others.

I feel like death is a theme of the Outsiders. Many of the main characters perish through different ways, making a sad end to the book.

I think that consequence is a theme that fits well with the outsiders because everything that happened had a consequence. Smoking a lot in the church started the fire. Johnny killing bob resulted in him and Pony being taken to court. Dally was shot after robbing a grocery store with a gun. The list goes on. All the characters face consequence at different times. When Darry and Pony learned that they were pulling Soda apart. When Bob got stabbed for beating up Johnny and trying to drown Ponyboy. Not to mention all the times people are sent to jail for the things they do.There are even times when we hear about other characters who are less prominent at times have consequences and lose things they care about. Sandy, Cherry, Randy, Curley and loads of others.

Even though the Greasers were truly nice people, and never meant to harm people with the exception of Dallas, their tough image and greased up hair made them seem like 'bad guys'. Their reputation isn't one that they had any choice in- they were just born this way. Because of this, the Greasers were social outcasts, and this probably made Johnny killing Bob seem worse than it really was. However, when Johnny, Ponyboy and Dallas saved the kids in the burning church, this gave them a new reputation of being heroes. Although the Socs also have a reputation of being rich, emotionless and spoilt since birth, Randy and Cherry show that there's more to Socs, too. It shows that sometimes, reputation is all that truly makes us different from each other.
