Poland is located in Eastern Europe positioned between both the northern and eastern hemispheres. The latitude of Poland is 51.9194°N and the longitude is 19.1451° E. The total area of Poland is 312,685 square kilometers with a coastline extending up to 491 kilometers. 

 

Poland lies on the Central part of Germany, northeast of the Czech Republic, north of Slovakia, northwest of the Ukraine, west of Belarus, and southwest of Latvia. Poland touches the Baltic Sea and the capital of Poland is Warsaw. 

 

Poland has mostly a flat terrain with 91% of its territory lying below 300 m above sea level. Poland is one of the biggest countries in Central Europe with an area of 312,679 sq km. Across central Poland a vast region of plains extends (Polish Plain), used mainly for agriculture. The entire northern half of Poland is covered in over 200 lakes. Along the southern border are the mountain ridges of Carpathians and Sudetes. Tatra Mountains (part of Carpathians) are very steep and here the highest Polish peak is found, Mount Rysy, 2499 m (8200 feet) above sea level.Approximately one-fifth of the territory of Poland is maintained as fields, pasture and meadows. About 27% of the total area is covered by forest. 

 

 

Poland’s climate is temperate with cold, cloudy, moderately severe winters with frequent precipitation. The summers are mild with frequent showers and thundershowers. In the winter temperatures fall far below zero and sometimes bring heavy snowfall. The late summer and fall months are often dry, from the sub-tropical, continental air mass that bring plenty of warm days. The annual rainfall is 500 - 700 mm, where only 5 - 20% of that is snow.
