Is this a realistic expectation for Sessional instructors? And what is considered a "genuine effort?" Sessionals are part-time; they are often working other jobs. As such, they are pulled in many different directions and don't have round the clock availability for students. Sessional pay reflects scheduled class times and the accompanying office hour(s). In comparison to a full-time instructor, a Sessional is certainly not going to be available outside of class as much as their tenured colleagues are. Students often don't understand the difference between Sessionals and full-time instructors and therefore can view their Sessional instructor as not having given a genuine effort to be available when, in fact, they may be going above and beyond the time for which they are compensated. This perceived lack of availability can result in a poor score in this area of Sessional course evaluations.
