Brandon-

(0:10) Growing up I loved to play sports and be involved with active extracurricular activities. Growing up most of us had countless activities that required a lot of our time.

(0:20) Some of the reasons why I gravitated towards sports was the room to progressively become better and grow as a competitor. I loved to strive to be the best. As a kid my parents signed me up for multiple sports. It ranged from Little league baseball, soccer, basketball, and even martial arts which i did for several years before playing football. These experiences led me to developing what I loved to do.

(0:30) I loved to compete and it was fun to be around friends and the camarderie aspect of team and build friendship.I formed an identity with sports. The people who motivated me always wanted me to become an overall better person and to grow to something beyond sports. But figuring out a passion isn't always clear cut, and when you do

(0:45) Intertwining school extracurricular activities and hobbies could create conflict, especially when we try to balance so many things in our life. This is so important because as we go to college and eventually into our careers our lives can become very hectic.

(1:00) A majority of our adult lives the average american spends 50 hours a week working which leaves around 20 hours of free time to join a hobby.
A lot of our time is spent having to meet deadlines and prioritizing our daily activities.

(1:15) Having to do homework, preparing for practice, everything we do has a certain schedule that we follow in order to meet deadlines. So sometimes we feel stressed trying to get everything done in one day. But in order to truly balance a schedule it is vital to pick and choose what you truly care about. But figuring out what your true passion can be difficult when balancing and living a busy lifestyle.

(1:25)Time influences our decisions and I think about how my coaches would say we only have 24 hours in day. So we have the ability to control our time more than we think. Evaluate what matters to you and your top priorities. I've found that being less task oriented can help determine what matters. Our college days are ahead of us and this time from applications to the work we put in to get into a school we want has made us lose a sight of the importance those around us like our parents have on our life.

(1:45) So make good with the people who are in your lives and the ones who have helped you grow into the person your are today. All my coaches and mentors from Elementary school like coach Holdsberg who mentored me in life to my mom and dad who've helped me grow up in a nurturing household.

(2:00) Whether on the field, school, or with your closest friends and family time is precious especially as we grow older. Some of the biggest obstacles in life is the fear of yourself and your own expectations. So make use of your time and avoid distractions by prioritizing the time you have with doing things such as sports or whatever hobby your passionate about. Because in the end much more enjoyment will come to that in what we care about

"So look towards the future, but not so far as to miss today"

Have you ever heard the phrase, “If you wait until the last minute to do it, it only takes a minute to do?” Well, in most cases this is not true and will not cut it for most college students, especially student athletes. It takes a lot of prioritizing, responsibility, and motivation to be successful in the classroom. All of the people that succeed in college have one strong skill in common: good time management. These people are able to create a balance of work time, play time, and down time. They know how to organize their lives so that they have time to complete quality school work efficiently and on time, get rest, and be social with their friends. This is important for any person, but especially for student athletes. Student athletes have an entirely different responsibility that regular students do not have to keep track of. So many things come into play for student athletes such as workouts, weight training, study hours, eating, recovery, rest, and finally- free time. It is important for student athletes to practice wise time management in order to succeed academically, socially, and athletically.

1. Make a daily to-do list

not so much in the list itself, but in taking the time to sit down and write out the things you need to do. It’s either a priority for you or it’s not.

2. Time-block your tasks

For me personal, 90-minute segments of focused productivity. However, I’ve bumped it up to 60-minute “runs” as a challenge to see if I can accomplish the same amount of work in less time. Play around with it until you find a system that works best for you.

3. Avoid distractions

“You may delay, but time will not,” said Benjamin Franklin, America’s great inventor. The fact is, you’re only as distracted as you allow yourself to be. Real “time ninjas” control technology rather than allowing high-tech to control them.

In closing, you have more control over your time than you might think. If you want to stand out, then take a time out. Press the pause button briefly to evaluate your top priorities and do your best to organize your life around them. You can do this. Better yet, you will
