The captain explains that he couldn’t let Eddie burn to death and that a leg wound could heal. This is important because Eddies leg problem was a very big part of his life, he never knew how it happened and just had to live with it. Eddie had never stood up for himself towards his father. Normally Eddie lets his father do whatever to him, if it’s from yelling to hitting or punching but not this time. Eddies father went to hit him and Eddie moved out of the way. Eddies father didn’t like that at all and never talked to him again. This is very important because in the beginning of the book we learn that Eddie is not very close to his father and now we get the inside scoop of why Eddie is not close to him. We learned that Eddie had always been controlled by his father and somewhat abused. This is important because Eddie and the other men were trapped here for months and being controlled by the Crazies. Having to work all day and barely getting enough food to service.
