I've experienced racism in my predominantly white sport many times because I was a talented black athlete. The color of my skin mixed with my talent was really intimidating for people who didn't take the chance to get to know me. The way I got over that was to educate people and to be nice to them in spite of the ignorance. Eventually I was able to bridge the gap. As far as the curriculum, I had to teach myself how to study differently to meet the SJU standards. I went to professor office hours and got tutors until I improved.
