Day 1

On day one we learned 2 of the most important words of the semester, Divergent and Convergent (thinking).

Divergent thinking is a cognitive process aimed at generating multiple, unique ideas or solutions to a problem. It involves exploring various possibilities rather than searching for a single correct answer, often leading to innovative and creative outcomes. (Multiple web sources)

Convergent thinking is the cognitive process of narrowing down multiple ideas or solutions to find the best, well-defined solution to a problem. It typically involves logical reasoning and is often applied in situations requiring a correct answer, such as standardized tests.

(Multiple web sources)

Some questions were used as examples of how to think in both of these ways, including the one that majorly stood out as quite extraordinary, "How Many Ways Can You Shave A Monkey?" This question forced us to come up with as many different fast ways to shave a monkey, some more questionable than others, yet we found many ways in a short period of time, which was after all the point of this activity, to build a solid foundation and understanding of what this course consists of.

Golf Balls

Today we received a sheet of balls, and were told to color in and make them into a real-world 'thing'. My partner and I ended up with 3 Calloway Golf Balls, which we then needed to turn into a saleable product along with a pitch. Our pitch was that along with buying our 'Calloway SuperSoft Color Performance Balls' then you would also receive a complimentary fridge magnet customizable to a picture of your favorite/most frequented golf course/driving range! We think this was to allow us to be able to pitch on the spot and become more creative thinkers, and begin to develop 'out of the box' thinking.

Today we studied a lot on empathy and sympathy and what both mean:

Empathy is the ability to understand and share another person's feelings and experiences by imagining what it would be like to be in their situation. It involves being aware of, sensitive to, and vicariously experiencing the thoughts and emotions of others.

Sympathy is a feeling or expression of understanding and caring for someone suffering or facing difficulties. It reflects a genuine concern for their pain or problems.

We spoke in pairs about each other's weekends and then completed empathy maps on what happened on the weekend and learned about what they can do when trying to learn about your customer/partner/accomplice.

Fridge-scision maker

The Fridge-scision maker is a majorly hi-tech fridge that is around 2.5 meters tall with a screen on both sides and when the right side is knocked on twice, a screen will appear that has 4 links, one that allows you to see, on a list what you can make with the food ingredients inside the right of your fridge and drinks on the left. The second link takes you to a survey to receive instant data for how you feel in the moment and gives you food suggestions if you knock on the right and drink if you knock on the left. Also if you are just too lazy to even complete a survey but are ok with waiting 20 minutes, the 3rd link will take you to the McDonald's lunch menu because we all know that the breakfast menu is the most bland taste pallet ever. (Cooper works at Mcdonalds so that was the fast food of choice)

Finally, if you click on the fourth link, it will take from the survey or just bring up multiple major supermarkets, you place an order, and it will order food for you and have it put through your garage in a chute that is easy to install, sort your ingredients and drinks.

COME GET YOUR OWN FRIDGE-SCISION MAKER TODAY!

(Cooper works at Mcdonalds so that was the fast food of choice) It will then order through your preferred delivery service which you can register while setting up the fridge.

Finally, if you click on the fourth link, it will take from the survey or just bring up multiple major supermarkets, you place an order, and it will order food for you by the same delivery service and have it put through your garage in a chute that is easy to install, sort your ingredients and drinks.

So whether you are a foodie, indecisive, or just plain lazy like Cooper, the fridgescision is the fridge for you!

What you just read was the script I had used to pitch my idea for indecisive hosts, like Cooper, who want their friends to have a good time but don't want to decide on a meal out of respect. This task was to allow us to see how we could appeal to our customer and be of aid to common world issues, which will create a foundation for the year 10 product design course.
