Normally, I usually take fame as it is, never looking further into how it's gotten or into the full impact of such fame. I'd just accept the fact that they are famous. However, this text has brought up the possible harmful consequences that acquiring fame online can have - not just for normal people looking up at such people, but for those affected by the fame themselves. In the text, it says that acquiring fame online can make one feel entitled, as though as their popularity makes them more valid and 'right'. It also can make one more self-aware, often to the extent that it turns into insecurity. I rarely think about these aspects of fame, and thus I believe this article is a must-read for anyone wishing to gain a deeper understanding of social media and Internet fame in general.

There's also another part of the text which I have interest in - that being when the writer compared how fame was acquired when she was younger and how fame is commonly acquired now. It truly shows how much, and how fast society has changed thanks to the Internet. Back then, people had to work and think hard to be able to acquire fame. They had to network with a lot of people, build up their skills to a significant, distinguishable level, and in some cases learn how to be charismatic and communicate effectively with others. It It also mattered if they were part of a well-known organisation, or are descendants of someone already famous. However, now, all it takes to people to take attention to you - provided you have luck on your side - is a single post on social media. These people got famous after no more than a year, going on famous shows like Jimmy Fallon show to go on interviews. I am bewildered by these people being able to gain millions of likes and followers just by making a short 1 minute video. Even many popular Youtubers such as SSundee works everyday mostly without break to post 15-40 minute long videos, yet accounts on Tiktok who just posts 1 short 1 minute video everyday have 10 times his follower / subscriber count. I feel these people do not deserve the fame they garnered as they did not truly work hard.
  I can trust the writer as the writer is talking about their own experience. They have no reason to lie about their own experience because even if she was not telling the truth, it would not have that much of an effect as it is a common occurrence among parents with teen children. The writer is a parent whose job is a journalist and who is shocked by the fame her daughter receives so easily compared to herself although she is a journalist and her daughter is basically a nobody. Her shocked attitude tells me when she was a teenager, she had no means to talking to more than a thousand people, let alone one hundred thousand in the comfort of her own bedroom.

I know an auto-journalist who writes car reviews for the Straits Times and has established a good reputation amongst the small car enthusiast side of Singapore. However, his internet presence is tiny compared to other car reviewers and content creators on the internet, having only a small Instagram page of roughly 500 followers as compared to other auto-journalists like DougDemuro on youtube and even Hagerty Media doing reviews on older cars that had an impact on the car world, even though its technically a small company compared to a single person.
2. the facts of the text are true, on how the older generation, namely the parents should either adopt or ignore this new form of communication, as well as spawning a dangerous sense of entitlement on the internet. however, most of the text is opinion-based, as children nowadays can still have the same mindset to the internet as their parents or grandparents, and how she hopes the next generation will be more cynical towards fame and politics, its just an assumption that we will never know for certain until the time comes.
3. the writer shows a concerned tone in this text, as shes concerned of the next generation of children that are born into this could be obsessed with internet fame. however, she may not have full authority on this broad internet topic as many people and children can stray away from her pin-pointed areas to be concerned about. Most teenagers nowadays depend so much on technology that they have created an entire persona online to try to get the attention that they never had in real life. Due to this issue, being viral on the internet slowly but surely became mainstream and thus, being viral has become fairly common. Back in the day, having tens of thousands of views was considered rare and meant that you have achieved something that no normal people could. However, internet has connected so many people that those numbers have become like a ripple in an ocean. Some examples are the percentage of new trends being created in the last decade. Everybody wants a piece of the pie called fame.  Due to this hierarchy and social standing have slowly but surely started to fade away as no one has time to care about that anymore.
The writer stated a good point that something radical and unknown is happening on the internet with repercussions that society might not understand. Because the world has adapted to putting everything onto the internet, it has become a way for living for human society. Without internet, most of technology and jobs today wouldn't exist.Thus, people have come to learn to take advantage of this situation and turn it into a system for them to make money. One example is Facebook. You might think that because the app is free, you do not have to pay anything in order to use it. However, how do Facebook actually make money? They make money by selling your data to companies so that they distribute ads fit for you into the algorithm. Essentially selling your life away to the big corporations for money. Thus, the writer has stated a fact that is well supported. Which is why it brings me to the next point, which is that I trust the writer. Although she is of the older generation, I sense little bias and cynical views from her. She spoke about each topic from the perspective of both sides however, does not sound robotic as an entirely non bias article.       The text reminds me of things that happened on social media that i spotted. Someone on tik tok posted some videos and went viral. The videos he posted was about him going to places and trying food that we don't normally see or taste it. Examples like enormous lobster, sea foods that is twice the size of normal ones that we eat. The video became viral as people tend to enjoy watching clips of people exploring weird and unusual food. Sooner after the clip was posted more and more people started coping the video and it can be seen everywhere on social media.

Khaby Lame lost his job at the start of the COVID-19 Pandemic in his hometown of Senegalese, Italy. Italy was one of the worst hit countries by COVID-19 when it started. He unfortunately lost his job and was jobless for a period of time.That was when he saw a video of another person trying to open a door but his leg was blocking the door from opening, he duetted the video and he taught everyone how to open a door the correct way. That was one of his most viewed videos and it garnered 297.1 million views and is still counting. He earned approximately $547 dollars for just that video! After that, he continued to make more videos which stole the show from other Tiktokers at that time. In a recent interview with the New York Times, Khaby revealed that he earnt about $200,000 a month from making 30 second videos on Tiktok! 

I do not trust the author as there is a generation gap between her and her daughter, she may not fully understand the benefits that social media brings about. The older generation will usually lament on how social media has negatively impacted us. That’s why I do not trust the author. The author has authority over her daughter and can restrict her daughter from social media. Her attitude tells me that she is concerned over her daughter on social media as she thinks it will affect her in the long run.

This text has brought up many examples and opinions on how social media affects us yet benefits us and I think this text is very relatable for many others in today's society. This is because there are constantly more and more people joining social media each day and content on the different platforms are slowly expanding. The perspectives and insights the text gives would definitely benefit users of social media to see what they could be getting exposed to. 
In the text, the writer does express many of her opinions and a few facts amongst all the opinions. Ideas which are facts include those which are supported by evidence through numerical values and can be verifiable. An example would be "a mere 114,000 was almost four times the number of followers...". Opinions from the writer include "I was simultaneously impressed, alarmed and humbled...I didn't even fully understand what TikTok was..." This example shows that while the writer knew TikTok existed, the writer was still stunned by how social media currently worked. The use of many expressions and feelings conveyed the statement that the writer made as an opinion. The opinions the writer gives are also generally well-supported.
I think that I can trust the writer as she is a journalist and a parent who has had her fair share of experiences. As a journalist, she would have done sufficient research on social media first before publishing an article. With the development of science and technology, internet has been playing an increasingly important role in our daily life - especially in this era. It has brought alot of benefits but has created problems as well. For instance, internet/social media can be beneficial when it is use to spread positive things; it can light up a person's day and kill time or maybe some studying purpose. the disadvantage is when it's use to spread fake/negative things; it may impact or upset people or even mental health issues (especially people who are easily influenced/brainwashed).
the text reminds me of me teaching the elderly how to use mobile devices as many of them are like the writer, they dont really understand the 'social media world'; the internet fame or the influencers  due to the big generation gaps between them.
