  • Anxiety from falling in the shower is very prevalent.
  • Carpets and mats are feared because feet can catch on them leading to falls. However, some chose to keep mats in the bathroom despite the risk “until we fall” because they were softer on their feet and prevented the discomfort of cold. 
  • It is not the fall that is ‘the problem’ but how to get up once you fall. I asked whether there were lower handrails in their bathrooms and they said no. 
  • Current solutions they approved of, were textured ceramic tiles, handrails in the shower, emergency call buttons, however not all had them in the shower.
  • Most felt their shower was too small to maneuver in but said “we knew what we signed up for when we moved here".
