Chapter Ten

What I loved most about chapter ten was all the different outcomes. With the other chapters, there wasn't a vast majority of differences and outcomes. With chapter ten in the textbook, this topic spoke about entering adulthood. Some outcomes include entering work and/or college, others get married, and some have children! Not only that, but an identity crisis may settle in, as well as the search for love. Regardless, there was many cultural differences explained, like Mediterranean and Scandinavian... also the United States! I resonated with the Mediterranean section, not only because I'm from that culture, but because it was accurate based on my families views.

Chapter 11

Parenthood has always been a lifelong dream of mine, so naturally that's what I liked most about chapter 11. What I was surprised to know was that only 1 in 3 marriages reported more love for their partner after becoming parents! I also loved the section on motherhood, seeing both the upsides and downsides. I think this section really prepares the readers for what to expect, and that everything is not always a bed of roses. It taught me not only that, but also about fatherhood and the impact it has on a child. The concept that stuck out to me in the textbook was the 'rough and tumble" method, which increases a babies intellectual growth.

Chapter 12

Just as I love reading about parenthood, grandparents is also an interesting topic. Grandparents sometimes feel as if they have to hold their tongue on how their child is raising the grandchild, because the ability to see the grandchild may be at risk if the parents get frustrated with grandma or grandpa. I was surprised to learn that there is no legal visitation process in place for grandparents. It, to me, is devastating to hear, because just as the child is part of their parents, they are also part of their grandparents. On the alternative side, some grandparents feel compelled to help the parents, not able to say no when they're asked to babysit.

Chapter 13 & 14

Something I think that would help me live my life to the fullest was in chapter 14 in section 14.4, where it explained what to look at and search for when exploring different nursing homes. It said to focus on residents, staff, and setting. For residents, the textbook mentions to try and interview a family member of a resident, or a resident themselves and see what the pros and cons are of this particular place. For the staff, look for staff turn over, and see how caring the aides are. Look around the place. Does it look appealing? How many other elders are there? Is there privacy and outdoor areas? These are great questions to ask and think about, which I think is most helpful to myself and others who are thinking about nursing homes.

Living to 100

After taking the test, I am expected to live till 92. While some would be happy for living that long, I'm hoping I don't. The sole reason is because I don't want to live a lot of my old age in pain and dependent on my family members. 70-80 years of life is plenty!

Which Stage is "Ideal"

Every stage of life is ideal, but the one I find is the best is chapter ten entering adulthood. This one seemed to contain many positive aspects and outlooks on what the future could hold for many coming-to-be-adults. The others seemed to contain a lot of downsides and negatives, especially as it went on to explain adulthood and grandparent. There was a lot of light shed on the struggles and what to expect. Each stage has its ups and downs, but this stage is important because it is the time to find yourself and who/what you want to be, what you would like your career to be, if any, and to begin planning for the rest of your life! If I had to chose my absolute favorite and most ideal out of all parts of life, I'd chose the infant/toddler phase.

I have one teensy complaint which I think I am the only one who struggled with. The something to consider about assignments gave me a pretty rough time. Some submitted, some didn't and I tried everything in the book to correct whatever issue it was that I had. Achieve support wasn't much help :( Besides that, I love Mrs. Buchanan, I love psychology, and I enjoyed all the types of assignments that I did in this class. I especially loved the developing lives program. It was such a cute animation. I like the topics that were chosen for discussion boards and the oral exam. Mrs. Buchanan, you've done a wonderful job, and you've been such a great help whenever I need it!

Academic Integrity

Despite the gif (I am a huge Harry Potter fan) I solemnly swear that I did abide by the academic integrity policy and I am NOT up to no good. I did not plagiarize, and came up with my own work. I am proud of my padlet :)
