I have learnt about the different ways gender-based identities are debated in Australian public culture. It was interesting reading about Judith Butler's ideas on gender performativity and how this affects individual agency - this has helped build my understanding of social
difference and identity and will allow me to see things with a more open mind :)

1. coming from a conservative household that was highly geared towards the concepts of heterosexuality, male, and female being inherently natural, this kinda turned alot of those beliefs on their heads.
2. I have, the 'othering readings' really challenged me to look closer at perspectives i had initially dismissed. This was mainly in accordance with the concept that we can only truly understand ourselves when we understand the 'other' and thus not only did i learn more about myself but also developed a deepened understanding of the concepts as a whole.

Was never really educated on this sort of topic but understanding political systems and such made me realise that there is a 'hidden yet clear' bias towards white people.

Also this concept of 'positionality' where meaning is determined through one's complex identities as well as position towards systemic structures.

MUCH LOVE ELAINE!!!!!!!!
