It is necessary but the content is important. We had history of Quebec for 4years and only 1 to year of world history.

I never liked history classes growing up. It felt like just remembering names and dates. I avoided taking “history” specific classes even in undergrad, even though pretty much my whole program was taught from an inherently historical & political lens. I wish I learned how to critically think in my history classes!

I had history as a high school student and often questioned the need for the class. Now I understand why understanding history helps inform our present reality. That being said, I don’t think that the present curriculum or pedagogy for teaching history makes this any clearer for current students.

Yes, I've had history class. Most of the history I have learnt has been about Quebec. My understanding is that it was to create a sense of Quebecois identity. I believe history class is especially important for shedding light on current reality and making sense of our circumstances.

I had a very passionate history teacher which made history class great. He informs us (through wwI, ww2 etc) that human beings are nasty to each others which help us to become aware of the past, and how it informs current events and the further.
