  • Somalia is at risk of their third famine. The last one, in 2011,caused the dearth of 260,000 people.
  • Farmers have been forced to move out of their homes since many of them lost all their cattle and goats to the drought. They have also had a minimum of three failed harvests, and without the livestock there is nothing. These people have walked hundred of kilometers to flee to makeshift camps in the town. 
  • In hospital there are thousands of people suffering from malnutrition, cholera or acute diarrhoea. Babies and young children are most affected.

    The United Nations reports Somalia, for now, has averted the worst but that the country remains fragile and famine continues to stalk its people.

    The World Food Program (WFP) country director in Somalia, Laurent Bukera, says 3.2 million people are in trouble. He says some 350,000 children are malnourished, including 70,000 severely malnourished.
