The Germans pushed East with their allies and destroyed, and pillaged as they advanced. The harsh Russian Winter set in and when the Germans were at the gates of Moscow, they were set back and retreated. The USSR sent a counter attack through the front pushing the Axis powers back. The German siege of Leningrad ended in Soviet victory, but the Germans began a counter attack at Kursk, lost, but the Germans swept through the Caucasus and surrounded Stalingrad. The 6th German army took it over. But the German troops protecting the back and supply lines, were weak and the Russians attacked the lines, surrounding the German 6th army.
