La mejor época para iniciar los esquejes es entre agosto y septiembre, de esta manera estarán listos para su trasplante para principios del siguiente año. Para poder hacer un esqueje, debemos cortar una rama de unos 10cm de largo de la hierba aromática que quiera reproducir.
    Pele los 4cm inferiores de la rama, quite la corteza alrededor de esa sección y agregue sábila (aloe vera) como agente enraizador. Después coloque la rama en una maceta con suelo húmedo y presione ligeramente para estabilizarlo. Es importante siempre mantener la humedad en el suelo para obtener buenos resultados y tenerlas en un lugar protegido que reciba ciertas horas de sol. Tome en cuenta hacer al menos unos 5 esquejes de la planta que desea reproducir, ya que no todas enraizarán.

    Algunas hierbas aromáticas de las cuales puede hacer esquejes son: cedrón, albahaca, hierbabuena, menta, laurel, mejorana, menta, orégano, romero, salvia, taragón (estragón) y tomillo.

    Transición en invierno

    Después de un mes de haber realizado nuestros esquejes, podremos ver cuales han sobrevivido. El crecimiento durante los primeros meses será muy lento, ya que la nueva planta está utilizando su energía en producir raíces. Cuando comience el invierno debemos proteger nuestras plantas. La protección dependerá del lugar donde nos encontremos, temperaturas debajo de los 7°C pueden llegar a afectar nuestras plantas. Podemos llevarlas dentro de casa, garaje, un ventanal o crear un pequeño invernadero para protegerlas durante las semanas más frías. Las plantas se irán adaptando a las temperaturas bajas.
    Una vez que se han aclimatado, podemos colocarlas en un lugar que reciba mucho sol, cuidando de no tener exceso de calor y humedad.

     CUIDADOS

    Agua, luz y temperatura

    La mayoría de las hierbas les gusta estar bien regadas, con buena humedad, pero no tener un exceso. Es por eso que nuestras macetas deben tener un buen drenaje. Debemos regar cuando la capa superior del suelo se ve seco o aprender a juzgar la humedad por el peso de las macetas.

    Para poder llegar a este fin, anteriormente en lo posible trataremos de hacer una visita al vivero, para poder ver cuál de ellas se venden ahí y empezar a investigar sobre cada una; nos apoyaremos en la observación directa, imágenes, y videos.

    En este proyecto tomaremos como área a trabajar  “Ambiente natural y social” y como eje: las plantas, en cuanto a los contenidos abordaremos: reconocimiento de diferencias entre las plantas, observación en los cambios de las plantas y reconocimiento de los diferentes usos que hacer las personas de las plantas.
