I was born in NYC and moved to Chappaqua when I was 6. In my free time, I enjoy running track and filmmaking. My love for creating films is what inspired me to pursue photography, as I believe it will arm me with the necessary skills to be a strong cinematographer. My films often revolve around themes of family and identity. I like taking photos of people and their environments--whether that be a room, home, landscape, etc.

Contemporary Artist: Gregory Crewdson

In this photo, Crewdson stages an actress as the subject and various props in the foreground and background to push a haunted vision of American life. He pays close attention to mise en scene to craft an alienated figure, a domestic setting, cinematic lighting through a window and an unsettling detail — in this case, blood in the water. In many ways, this photograph directly aligns with my inquiry, which focuses on the solitude of individuals surrounding self obsession. In my first self directed assignment, I stages my sister as the subject obsessing over food and comparing herself to others--this is achieved through the detail of her comparing herself to another woman on her phone, in a similar way Crewdson imbeds the detail of blood to push this haunted image. Specifically, I will use Crewdson's work as inspiration for post-production, taking advantage of lighting and shadows to highlight crucial parts of my images.

Idea: Obsession with success causes moments of isolation- where others don't understand you, and at times, you don't even understand yourself.

Have someone sitting alone on a bench at a train station after reaching their stop.

Framing: Wide angle with no other people in frame, potentially with the train leaving in the background.

Theme: Paints the feeling of being “in transit” or in a place of limbo, symbolizing how success can sometimes leave one feeling stranded between aspirations and true satisfaction.

Details: subject is dressed up as if coming back from an event; twilight setting, casting soft shadows that give a sense of stillness

Have someone standing in an empty parking lot under a streetlight holding a trophy

Framing: Wide shot, no one else in frame. Cars in the background (in or out of focus)

Theme: sense of isolation juxtaposes the celebratory nature of a trophy- winning but at what cost? Was it worth it?

Details: Maybe in normal clothes still to show that juxtaposition. Taken in the evening so streetlight is the main light sources. Big shadows.

Have someone standing at the edge of a lake, sketching in a notebook.

Framing: Wide shot, subject alone in frame with the lake stretching out in the background. The sketchbook is open, but the sketch remains unfinished or unclear, adding to the sense of uncertainty.

Themes: The solitude of the scene juxtaposes the idea of progress or achievement. The person is actively working (sketching), but the unclear or incomplete sketch reflects the internal questioning of whether all their effort and success have led to any real fulfillment.

Details: Casual clothes to emphasize the personal nature of the moment. Shot during early morning or dusk to create soft, reflective lighting from the water and sky. The calmness of the lake amplifies the person’s introspection.
