Interpretive art is a style of art that came around in the late 1800s during the Age of Progress. People could now paint whatever they wanted because they no longer had to accurately depict things due to the invention of the camera. Also, people’s acceptance of different styles increased which widened people's options and allowed experimentation. In expanding limits, many of the art styles and famous pieces of art now stem from this school.

Middle age art was quite basic. Most, if not all of the art was religious and was meant to depict scenes from the Bible. The art was 2-dimensional and was made of Tempera paint which had an egg yolk base, this is why the art is usually cracked and the color is muted. The Middle ages began in 476 AD after the fall of the Western Roman Empire and is considered to have ended in the 15th century. Some notable Middle Age artists include Giotto di Bondone and Cimabue with his "Maestà di Santa Trinità". Interestingly, Cimabue was so haughty and proud that if someone pointed out to him any mistake or defect in his work, or if he had noted any himself...he would immediately destroy the work, no matter how precious it might be.
