Born and bred in Mansfield, Notts, I left home at 18, when I moved to Bradford, West Yorkshire, to attend university.
Once I'd finished my undergraduate degree, I moved to Barnsley, South Yorkshire, for 2 years whilst I worked at the hospital there.
I then moved back to Bradford, to work for a supermarket pharmacy, and remained living there for a further 12 years.
From 2014, I worked for a travel company, so I lived in various places around the world: Madeira (Portugal), Gran Canaria & Lanzarote (Spain), Boa Vista (Cape Verde), Costa Rica, and Jamaica.
Now I'm back living in Mansfield, from June 2018.

I attended Sherwood Hall Upper School in Mansfield - the same school as Neil Wilson, he was in the year above me.
There I accumulated 10 GCSE's of grade C and above, as well as 4 GCE A Levels.
After school, I attended Bradford University, and obtained an undergraduate degree in Pharmacy - BPharm (Hons).
Since graduating, I have undertaken various further education modules supporting my career as a pharmacist - from modules in research techniques and drug design, to endocrinology and dermatology.
In 2004 I was persuaded to try my hand at teaching, so I undertook a Post-graduate Certificate of Education in Secondary Science.

Having never been built for sport, I enjoyed swimming and all things aquatic as a child, so my parents encouraged me to do things I enjoyed in the water...so I learned to SCUBA dive. By the time I went away to university, I was a Dive Leader in the BS-AC. As a highly qualified diver in my 1st year a uni, the diving club paid for me to undertake my instructors course, and I became an instructor for the club for the next 3 years.
I still dive occasionally, and as it had been a very long time since uni, I retrained under a PADI school when one of my TUI colleagues decided she wanted to learn how to dive, so I accompanied her.
I also trained as a private pilot, but as my time constraints became more and more through my career, the licence lapsed.

Something I enjoyed during my time in Bradford, and at school for that matter, was Role Playing. Now that probably sounds really weird, but you've probably come across references to things like Dungeons and Dragons, Warhammer (being a Nottingham-based company - Games Workshop) and maybe even DC Heroes. These games, based on plenty of imagination and a not inconsiderable quantity of dice, are absolutely amazing at encouraging teamwork, communication and imagination, as well as numeracy and literacy skills.
Other things I like are reading fantasy literature, playing computer-based role-playing and simulation games (Dragon Age, World of Warcraft, Star Trek Online, Theme Hospital, etc.), and, of course, cooking and baking.

I love learning new things. I also love food - and, although I adore chocolate, I prefer savoury dishes...and it's amazing what you can experiment with in chocolate fountains...just got to say: chocolate-coated sausage roll.
I find that cooking is very relaxing and enjoyable - it makes a great anti-depressant.

When I'm listening to people, I am mentally correcting their grammar - but one thing that really gets me going is using incorrect words: "pacific" instead of "specific" (I asked you pacifically...), "are" instead of "our" (are kids want to go...), and the classic Mansfieldism of "of" instead of "have" (you should of told me...).
I am also not a big fan of blowing my own trumpet.

I've kept myself busy right from the word go. As a 16 year old doing my A Levels, I worked for a supermarket a few days a week. During university vacations I took temporary jobs to keep me occupied.
Since graduating, I've worked as a pharmacist for 14 years - Barnsley Hospital, Leeds Teaching Hospitals, Sainsburys, and as a self-employed relief pharmacist for a while too.
Since my father died only a few months after retiring, I decided I needed to do the things I want to do, when I wanted to do them - so I gave up a job I didn't like to go and do something I had always wanted to do - travel rep. Therefore I started working for TUI, and have travelled a bit, and seen places as I never thought I'd see them.
