As the first chapter progresses, he comes off as someone who is quite self-righteous because he says that he does not like to judge others, but his thoughts of others show the opposite. He comes across as a little bit self absorbed because he describes himself as this incredibly important person who everyone admires. He was excited to live with this person that ended up leaving at the last minute. He was happy when he was showing a person where West Egg village was because it meant he had a companion. The first thing he thought when he saw Gatsby was to talk to him and make a friend, but Gatsby seemed a little unapproachable. Nick also seemed like he didn't want to be in the middle of things. When Daisy was talking to him about her problems he seemed a little hesitant on what to say. He also didn't join Ms. Baker as much when she was listening in on Daisy and Tom's conversation. The third thing I noticed was that he didn't talk much. I have no idea who the girl is that people say he is engaged to, or really anything else about his life for that manner. He might wish he was different which could be why he talks about other people more instead of himself.
